to be a bit sad that Christmas cards are going out of fashion

I don't seem to get that many any more. Lots of people just send a text or an email.

AIBU to think loads of cards on the mantle piece look really Christmassy and texts and messages just aren't the same?

I love Christmas cards, in fact, me and 3 yo dd are making some this afternoon!

I found them a nuisance. You could ask your family to buy cards.

Blame the cost of postage getting silly! I like them but will be going electronic next year. 1.06 for 2 cards is getting hard to justify.

But it's just a bit of landfill with 'to blah, from blah blah' written in it. Rarely, one other short, generic sentence is written as well. I've read on here before some people like doing them but I don't get it. I have pen pals, so I know the brilliance of getting and sending special post, but not a bit of paper folded in half with no content under the guise of 'tradition' or whatever.

I honestly hate them. Especially one with 'titles' on them.

Uncle and aunt (dbro from the kids)
Nephews (dbros kids from me and dh)
Cousins (dbros kids from my kids)

I just put them back and got one family one.

And don't get me started on doing 30 for the class!

I hate them and always refuse to do them, which drives my DM and MIL mad! I figure, I'm a nice person, so if you know me or are related to me, you can confidently assume that I hope you have a nice Christmas, without the need for me to send a crappy card to confirm it!

If you like them on the mantelpiece, can you not just buy a box yourself and use them to decorate?

Hate them. It's just clutter on a shelf. Most of my family and DH's family donate to the local hospice instead where DH and I's Dads were both cared for.
We get the odd card from elderly neighbours which I do reciprocate but none are displayed.

I hate them too. All the kids at dc's school do them for everyone in their class which equals 60 cards needed for the 2 of them. I found packs of 15 for 50p in asda but I still object!!

I'm not keen and take them all down on Boxing Day. The dc's love doing them though.

Haha, an older person's version of fb likes is EXACTLY what it is!

My mum sends loads of cards, and she also now writes cards on behalf of my 98 year old grandmother. Why?! If people don't know that my gran is too frail to send her own cards now, then they don't know enough about her to receive one. Plus my mum sends cards to old family friends that she hasn't seen since she was a child, which is crazy, she's 53!

i hate them and very rarely display them. The bastards fall over as soon as there's a breath of wind and I've yet to find something that will display them without them falling off. Bye bye Christmas cards!

It's not a done thing where I'm from. Even birthday presents come without cards. Isn't it just something that ends up in the trash after reading anyway?

My husband's family is very. serious. about. cards. We get one for everything, new job, new house, new baby, starting nursery, birthdays AND anniversaries, Easter AND Christmas. It's a very serious business. I think they might be keeping the card industry in the black. They have slowed down on thank you cards, as we all tend to exchange texts/phone calls for our thank yous now, which is a bit of a relief.

I do birthdays and Christmas. And Enjolrass, it is always a title card. Can't just send a Christmas card to my sister-in-law, it has to be "To My Dear Sister and her husband at Christmas." I didn't even know there were cards that specific till I married DH!

But it's all very complicated now that we have children because, for example my MIL and FIL meed a "to my parents at Christmas" card and need individual "Gran" and "Granda" Christmas cards from DS (and do you know how hard it is to find Granda cards in England?!).

I buy all the Christmas cards at once now, just after Christmas when they're all reduced. I just have to make sure I can find them again when the next Christmas rolls around!!

I haven't sent any in years and get very few now .

They do my head in.
Make the place look untidy. Waste of money completely.
But they come in handy for gift tags for the pressies next year.

If you like them as Christmas decorations, buy some and decorate your house, YABU to make everyone else go to loads of effort and expense for your decorating.

I like them, but have pared down my list over the years and don't send so many now. Also try to buy in the January sales

And lol to old people's FB likes - my nan would count hers and compare them to last year's haul!
