To think the Lottery isn't worth playing since the rules were changed?

There used to be a 14 million to 1 chance of winning, but since they increased the pool of numbers to 59 it's now 1 in 45 million. I was already ticked off after they increased the ticket price to £2. I'm wondering if I should ditch it completely and save £4 a week. It's £6 a week if you are also playing Euromillions. Anyone here still playing after the changes?

sowhite
I linked to the premium bond leaflet up thread.

broken
the odds per bond per month are indeed very low
but
every bond is entered every month for as long as you hold it and you can always get your stake back
and as the technical return rate is just over 1% its directly comparable to any instant access cash ISA
( I'm an accountant, I've got the checking spreadsheet on my PC )

I must be incredibly lucky to be getting premium bond cheques as often as I do lately even if they are only £25 all the time. However its just another investment to me and I prefer to diversify my money into different things, having some money invested in this way at least provides me with a chance of winning something without losing the initial capital invested. Only need to win a £25k cheque or higher once to make it worthwhile.

I stopped playing when it went up to £2. A £1 a week wasn't too bad but I wasn't paying any more. Never touched a scratch card either.

Didn't known they'd increased the numbers. Silly.

I agree with posters saying that putting money into premium bonds is a better gamble (because you can get your money back), however, the reason for the changes in the lottery were to create MORE winners at a lower level, rather than just one person scooping the jackpot, so the odds of winning the jackpot are now much less, but the odds of winning £1m are much higher than previously (now 1 in 10 million).

But you have to laugh when you see how the Lottery portrays the new system... "hurrah! there are now even more numbers to choose from" Tbh, I'd prefer it if there were only 6 numbers to choose from, then I'd be able to get them right Grin

Omg they got the numbers wrong???
Doesn't matter if they are asking for the winner to check their tickets now, how many people keep their tickets after they've checked them?
I won't be playing the lotto after reading this

Kali yes I am still mad that they won't confirm the shop or town , whether it was paid by cash or card or anything which narrows it down. They aren't trying too hard to find the winner.

The reason for this they say is in case the 'winner' wants anonymity! There won't be a winner though if they aren't tracked down! I'm sure if they traveled through cctv of the shop the winner wouldn't mind if they didn't even know they had won after throwing their ticket.

It is their mistake and people feel our area should benefit some way from the money seeing as though they have deprived someone of winning, but the money is to be put in a big pot and go to good causes they decide ( which probably won't be in our deprived area)
