I am not talking the rights or wrongs of bombing Syria. I am not saying that I have the answers. I just think that there is no place in a modern world for a barbaric group like ISIS and that Hollande has it right - there is no middle ground with them and the attacks on Paris are to all intents and purpose a declaration of war.

I am confused by people who seem to think that not wanting to bomb Syria means that one wants to negotiate with IS.
Clearly that would be daft - negotiate what exactly?
I don't want to see Syria bombed because a) It wouldn't achieve the desired outcome b) it will kill many innocent people.
It's got bugger-all with wanting negotiations with anyone.
How to get rid of IS? Follow the money - find out who is buying their oil, start by a good long look at Turkey and take it from there. No money, no Islamic State.
OP YABU.

You can't totally defeat an enemy that has no fear, especially by just dropping a few bombs.

Would need a full scale ground Offensive to even have a chance of setting them back.

I don't think negotiating with factions of Isis is daft at all. There are many groups who are aligned with is because they provide them with some protection from Assad's murderous attacks and see Isis as the lesser evil for them. These groups are driven by self preservation and not ideology. Get them away from Isis (which means dealing with the Assad threat and protecting them somehow) and you weaken Isis.

Exactly my point. I just don't think Isis is morally any worse than Assad. In fact, at least Isis can claim to be ideologically driven, however mistaken. Assad doesn't even have that excuse! But as long as Assad was just meddling in Lebanon and threatening Israel, all was good. Isis have dragged the war in Syria and Iraq on to the streets of Paris and London but t doesn't make them worse than anyone else there, just harder to ignore!

agree, but unfortunately kill them all off and there'll be a new group itching to get into dead peoples boots and start another terrorist group. well never be rid of them.

this is not utopia or Shangri-La.

as for bombing Syria, yes, innocent people will be killed but ---all the people in 9/11, 7/7, Paris, and everywhere else targeted by terrorists were all innocent.
