To be pissed off with so called MH professionals

I'm agoraphobic, also have mild autism, ptsd, anxiety and depression and can barely go to the local corner shop on a good day.

Supposed to be meeting MH support worker for the first time to go to a women's group in town for those with anxiety issues. Support worker only has 4 sessions with me due to funding, agreed to pick me up to go to the group as there's no way I can handle public transport alone.

Support worker just phoned to make sure everything is ok for today and asks me if I can meet her in town with everyone else because she's already in the other side of town and it would be easier.

They just don't fucking get it. I've been like this since I was 13. I'm trying to access support and forcing myself to do things, but now she's trying to move the goalposts and I'm spiralling back into feeling depressed again. I feel like a burden and i'm not worthy of her time.

wtf is your step dads beef phoning about the cat?! Animals are great company and brilliant comfort when your head is feeling difficult. really sorry youre feeling so shit op. Flowers (as a psychotherapist were not all dickheads but some unfortunately totally let us down.)xx

FlowersAndShit · 27/11/2015 14:22

She's 20 mins late so i'm not sure if she's going to turn up.

Her being late is adding to your anxiety - try and think positively - she may be caught in traffic.

hiddenhome2 · 27/11/2015 15:17

Ask the LL again about the cat. Try to get him to explain the reasons why he won't let you have one. Cats aren't destructive in the way dogs can be.

A cat would do you the world of good. They're lovely creatures and definitely not neurotypical.

LagunaBubbles · 27/11/2015 15:24

How do these people get into this profession?

I think its a bit early to condemn this support worker like that. OP you say you were meant to be meeting this support worker for the first time - she may not even have been told you needed accompanying to the appointment.

RandomMess · 27/11/2015 15:30

She'll be delayed by the traffic etc.

BoxofSnails · 27/11/2015 15:33

Flowers I hope she arrived. Cats are great, and ours are therapy in 4 legged form for me. I hope you can be assertive however little you feel like it and have a cat - ours are older from a rescue and I wouldn't be without them. You've been immensely brave to try and tackle this stuff. Flowers

Thank you all. t went really well, meeting again next week. I'm so upset about the cat thing and thinking about handing in my notice and moving somewhere else after Christmas

Speak to your LL again and ask him to reconsider even if only a trial basis?

ZoeTurtle · 27/11/2015 16:57

Don't do a trial basis - totally unfair to disrupt a cat like that. But if you explain you'll be taking a toilet trained elderly cat, not a kitten, and you will be looking elsewhere if he says no, I'm sure he'll see reason.

Nilgiri · 27/11/2015 16:58

Oh that's marvellous about the meeting! Flowers

Spellcaster · 27/11/2015 17:01

Well done for hanging on in there and so pleased to hear about the meeting going well! Agree with so much of what's been said. You're doing great Flowers. Flowers

yorkshapudding · 27/11/2015 17:19

Really glad you made it to your meeting and that you felt it was positive. Is it a one off or a regular thing?

RandomMess · 27/11/2015 17:32

I meant move if the LL wasn't happy after a trial period of having the cat in his house!!! Not returning the cat Grin

FlowersAndShit · 27/11/2015 18:46

Thank you all. It's every 2 weeks Smile. I might just get a cat anyway, fuck him.
