DH and I having a chat about reasons you might get a tetanus jab as we are bathing DS (as you do!)

One of us says you might get it if you were bitten by a dog. The other pulls the Hmm face and says a rusty nail is far more likely.

So a discussion ensues about which is more likely in real life. We both think the other is being unreasonable so vipers...which is it? Dog bite or rusty nail!??!

Both, I was bitten by a dog and was given a jab. I also cut my toe open on a piece of metal and was given a jab for that aswel.

Dunno about tetanus but trod on a rusty nail when i was five years old and had an absess like a football after in my groin area. Still carry the scar following the lancing of it. Cut myself in garden earlier this year and no tetanus but a hellish bout of cellulitis,

I got bitten by a cat, and wasn't given a tetanus jab. I did have to have some very strong antibiotics through.

However, I have had lockjaw. I didn't get it through contracting tetanus though. Crikey, it was a disturbing experience. I had to live off mashed potato for weeks.

Both are more common than you think.

I work on a plastics ward and the amount pf dog bites we get is amazing. A dog bite can require surgery and most certainly antibiotics.

However a rusty nail can be extremely dangerous as it can lead to strep and necrotising fasciitis which believe me is not pleasant and more common thn you may think.

Dog bite more common than nail but nailore dangerous in my opinion.
