Okay, I know I am probably way out of touch.

But really, what do people watch on youtube? Is it really not just ugly cats dancing?

Any recommendations?

I managed to get dh to replace my tumble dryer element thereby saving about 80 quid

MelanieCheeks · 25/11/2015 14:39

I make recordings of Scottish country dances, particularly new or difficult ones, to help dancers understand how it is done.

Djelibeyb · 25/11/2015 14:43

I watch Rhett & Link / Good Mythical Morning for my dose of comedy genius
TED talks for some awesome tips and advice and a good few gaming channels.

DCs watch Atlanticcraft, Stampy Longnose, Phineas and Ferb episodes they can't find on Netflix.

We do police the kids though and they are very good at just watching things we have approved. It's easy to find some awful stuff but good parental controls ISP side can really help.

Sing along to youtube karaoke videos when having the bath,
Watch the first ever series of grange Hill,
Find tips for drying a bob in 5 minutes,
Watch piano playing tutorials,
Relax by watching kaleidoscope videos

Are some things I do you can do on youtube

HeadDreamer · 25/11/2015 14:48

It's great for children. For example this morning, DD wanted to watch numberjacks. Do you think you can find it on BBC iplayer? No. A quick search on youtube turns up more episodes of the show than DD can watch before school.

You can get a specific version that's locked down for kids.

We got it installed on DD's hudl.

coffeetasteslikeshit · 25/11/2015 14:50

I fixed my phone using a YouTube video. I was ever so proud of myself.

HeadDreamer · 25/11/2015 14:50

This article explains the youtube kids app. It might persuade those with younger children to install it instead of the normal youtube app.

youtube will never catch on

just like tv and the internet

hiddenhome2 · 25/11/2015 17:16

There is no better place than YouTube Smile

There's movies and documentaries, vintage programmes - I love Play for Today - info vids giving out valuable information and advice, funny and silly stuff and don't forget endless cat videos Grin

YouTube is awesome.

VikingLady · 25/11/2015 20:36

YouTube got me through morning sickness without puking on my toddler. I sat her on my knee in front of the PC and let her choose nursery rhymes when it was at its worst. No effort involved, she was entertained and thought we were interacting, I didn't have to move and trigger nausea - and she learnt her alphabet and to count backwards from 10!

memyselfandaye · 25/11/2015 21:07

Yesterday I was showing my 4yr old some tv shows from my childhood (1980s)

Crackerjack with Stu Francis
Runaround
Supergran

He was fasinated that Noel Edmonds was on something other than Deal or No Deal.

ShoeJunkie · 25/11/2015 21:17

rubymallorywhite · 25/11/2015 22:13

Haha me & one of my chums sometimes feel we need to release pent up emotion so we have a couple of ciders, watch Scott & Charlene's wedding then cry buckets.. It's the song.

It's mainly music for me,

Nursery songs & Frozen rubbish (real life frozen holy shit....) on the rare occasion my wee one gets my iPod.

Guitar teacher videos.

I have seen me think ah how do you do that & go straight on YouTube.

Tutorials for everything under the sun.

Argh can't fit that car seat: YouTube

How do you French pleat? YouTube

I spent a good 3-4 hours a few weeks ago one morning at work watching videos about menstrual cups before I took the plunge & bought one.

Don't think I realise until I wrote this just how much YouTube I actually watch!!!!!

rubymallorywhite · 25/11/2015 22:15

Tourette's karaoke is amazing !
Forgot about him !

Oysterbabe · 25/11/2015 22:21

Wow are you a time traveller from the past?
What is this "YouTube" people are always talking about these days? Grin

AnyoneButAndre · 25/11/2015 22:27

I don't normally have the patience for YouTube, but I do like being able to catch up with old Strictly dances.

Fluffy40 · 25/11/2015 22:37

Just type in Tommy cooper, he cracks me up every time .

Sallystyle · 25/11/2015 22:40

Youtube taught me to:

Crochet
Make old fashioned fudge
Learn long division again Blush

Entertained me with:

Black heads and cyst porn
Music

pepper22 · 17/06/2016 22:21

I watch
Hannah Maggs
Jules Furness
Pewdypire
Ted talks
Mrs Meldrum (thought not all the time, she can be annoying)
and I kindof use it instead of google for things like tutorials or reviews.
Saconne Jolys drive me crazy. So much fakeness and the poor kids!

I'm in the market for more recommendations for parenting/lifestyle type youtube channels, any more suggestions?

Sconesnotscones · 31/07/2017 01:33

All sorts of obscure, but life enhancing things on it.

Saw a really interesting documentary about the fabulous Alistair Sim on Youtube. Couldn't find it anywhere else.

steff13 · 31/07/2017 01:44

There's a Stanford University professor who recorded all his lectures on digital photography and put them on YouTube.

I learned how to pick a lock when my daughter locked the bedroom door.

I learned how to reprogram the garage door opener thingy in my car to work with my garage door.

Amee1992x · 31/07/2017 01:46

My DS watches kids opening toys, it's odd. But it's his TV time 🤷🏻‍♀️. I love YouTube for beauty gurus & family vlogs love the McClure twins & Angela @ this gathered nest
