Social workers lying on oath

It's not that unusual, in my experience, for allegations to be made about social workers, who have an alomost impossible job. However, in this case www.bailii.org/ew/cases/EWFC/OJ/2015/B186.html discussed here suesspiciousminds.com/2015/11/23/social-workers-slammed-for-lying-on-oath/ social workers changed a report which didn't say what they wanted it to say and then one of them admitted lying about it on oath. One of the social workers involved has since been promoted.

So AIBU to be really shocked by this, or is the shocking aspect of this that the SW were caught out?

The judgement linked to first is from 2015. That is why we publish judgments so they are never zombie, so they can be read even 100 years after they are published. Open justice is a huge part of English law.

NameChanger22 · 26/04/2017 21:24

I'm not shocked. I'm friends with a social worker who is very honest and kind, but she works with some who are anything but.

conserveisposhforjam · 26/04/2017 22:41

Why does it matter if it is zombie?

Well at least two comments from today address people who may no longer be massively invested in this conversation. And it seems the person who revived the thread might have an agenda.

But yeah. Go for it. Hmm

thateverythingglittering · 27/04/2017 08:41

conserve do you not think it is an important issue, and it is still an important issue even though it was a zombie thread, and even though a couple of people have not rtt?

I would not want a very necessary and important profession to be knocked, but if even SWs are coming on and saying these things happen and they are not surprised or shocked about this, then even if it is a zombie thread then it is still worth raising people's awareness.

it seems the person who revived the thread might have an agenda possibly to raise people's awareness?

It's a massively important issue. Doesn't matter if it was a couple of years ago.

If I had seen the comment in real time- I didn't I wanted to comment - so what if I resurrected and old post asa result of a search- if you don't like it, leave it alone to go back to sleep- I didn't need a reply- I just wanted to make a comment. Why are there posts from years ago?
Why are you not 'allowed' to comment on a post regardless of its age?

AskBasil · 27/04/2017 09:18

I think the issue here isn't that the SW's lied, it's that it's so accepted and normal, that that doesn't hurt their career in any way. On the contrary, promotion follows.

Zombie or not, that's worth noticing.

Just start a new thread instead of bumping all the old ones. People never RTFT and just reply to the ancient OP.

JanetBrown2015 · 27/04/2017 10:48

It is up to people whether they want new threads or old. For continuity I never see any problem with an older thread being used actually although most people don't agree with me.

Sparklingbrook · 27/04/2017 10:51

It all gets very confusing when the thread is bumped years later. A few people read the whole thing, loads of others try and respond to the long gone OP.

I want new threads personally. I have no idea why zombie threads aren't locked.
