He'll be 3 next month! What do 3yr olds play with? He's growing out of his toddler stuff but I've no idea what to move on to. Everything seems themed - paw patrol, batman, Spider-Man etc etc. He's just started to watch the odd episode of paw patrol but j wouldn't say he's interested enough to go out and stock up on all the tat!! Please help....,

i think tesco etc do brio like tracks. btio is ££££

Twoseventhsaweasley · 22/11/2015 08:46

Ikea sell a wooden train set that is almost identical to Brio for a fraction of the price.

I agree about Playmobil, fire station, farm, Happyland, toy animals and musical instruments.

My 3year old is getting a wooden train set and toy cars.

My DS is 3 in Jan so know exactly what you're talking about! Especially with everything being themed! He has no idea who Spider-Man or Batman is?! (plus I don't like character themed stuff for some reason).

I trawled some threads on here for ideas and he's getting a scooter and balance bike since he's too big for his buggy now.

I have such fond memories of playing games as a family when younger so he's got hungry hippos, pop up pirate and a fishing game for us all to play together.

I also got him a few playmobil things to start him off as he's recently been into having his dinosaurs talk to each other etc so this is good for imaginative play. The prices vary greatly on playmobil so def best to shop around.

Shit. I'm now thinking I've got him too much! Esp with his birthday not long after it!

Mine wants 'baddies. Lots n lots of baddies...an a toy twain'

He has many trains already. I'm not sure how to provide the baddies!

Popular here (he's 3.5 with a a big sister) are:

Lego/ duplo/ any kind of bricks

playmobil plane, swimming pool, camper van

Cars and garage

Toy kitchen

Drawing

parrot how about the ultimate train baddie, Diesel 10 and the DVD to go with it?

laffymeal · 22/11/2015 12:02

Agree with toy kitchen, as a primary school teacher with a home corner I still have boys fighting to get in there and pretend to be running a restaurant. It's brilliant.

Pretend play is usually really popular around this age.

Kitchen bits,Lidl were doing some lovely wooden one's not long ago and they were all about £10-£20 cheaper a set than the one's I bought for our DC years ago.

Shopping trolley and fake food,a till with pretend money,a shopping basket, toy hoover the one's that have the balls in that pop when you push it along,a pretend lawnmower that makes sounds or blows bubbles as you push it along,a play kitchen, shop or market stall.

All of those toys were really popular with all 3 of our DS and 2 DDs when they were younger.

Oh I love the Baker Ross website. I used to order the entire catalogue when I worked in my last job!! Much to my boss' annoyance.

He has a toy kitchen which he loves so I honk I'll get him some more accessories for that - food, pans and utensils etc.

Any recommendations on parking garages? One with lots of ramps to slide cars down??

So helpful folks, thanks X

I asked the same in Christmas for my 6 year old, ds1 at that age loved the imaginext batman caves and toys.

This week I took ds2 to Smyths and had a good look at all the toys and he did pick some things he would like, as well as the much needed suggestions from MNetter's.

How about taking him to your local toy store and see what he likes.

imwithspud · 23/11/2015 08:51

Dd1 was 3 in October and we got her a tablet - which she absolutely loves, some Orchard games, a jigsaw puzzle, she also got a bike from my dm and a little table and chairs set from pil (the IKEA one, it's fab).

For Christmas she's getting a dolls house with furniture, a small craft set, raccoon rumpus game, a wooden toy garage (the elc one) from dm.

I agree it's a difficult in between sort of age, I felt the same when thinking of ideas for dd's second birthday as well.

gabsdot · 23/11/2015 08:54

What about something for outside, a bike, a swing set or a trampoline or spend your money on an experience, e.g. the panto or an annual membership for a local attraction. Get him something small for the day,(I'd recommend Duplo too) but at his age he won't know what things cost.

wornoutboots · 23/11/2015 10:43

mine has just turned 3. he currently loves cars (including both hotwheels AND toot toot drivers), drawing (on the walls, aaagh!) so maybe an easel? also toy kitchen stuff, happyland, wow toys, his brother's drum kit, wooden trains, dinosaurs, any instruments (currently playing a tune on a paper tube),his rugby ball, baby dolls, and swords

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 23/11/2015 11:16

I'm getting my almost 3 year old dn a castle from Wilkinson's . It's £25. I'm getting him little knights and dragons and kings and queen ect oh and a unicorn. He's gone mad on unicorns
What little boy or little girl for that matter doesn't love a castle.
Or how about a pirate ship.
