Just parked at my local supermarket after dropping dd at nursery.

Enjoying 10 minutes peace, in the sunshine. Listening to an article on the radio.

Parked down the 'far end', away from the store. Not in anybody's way.

Whole of this end of the carpark is empty and some cockwomble idiot parks right next to me. Banging my car with his door as he gets out.

Why? Just why? There must be 200 other spaces that are empty.

Will his poor car be lonely?

Tis a mystery.
Probably the same reason everyone suddenly needs the Patagonia larks tongue I have parked my trolley in front of in the supermarket.

Or why someone else decides to park their trolley opposite me and block the aisle when the entire aisle is empty and then wander 20ft to get something. Then I get tutted at even though I had my back to this whole drama and was not aware of it.
Not bitter or anything.

nancy75 · 20/11/2015 11:07

This drives me mad, last week I was in the car on the phone (parked in a space in a virtually empty supermarket car park) a woman parked next to me, but because she had parked so badly and so close she couldn't get out of her car.
She opened her window, banged on my passenger window and told me to hurry up and move my car because she couldn't get out.

There were at least 50 other spaces she could have parked in, or if she had even parked within the lines of her chosen space she would have been able to get out.

MaxPepsi · 20/11/2015 11:13

We had this last year. In between Xmas and New Year. We went away to the coast.

DH was poorly and I had had a manic time so we both forgot to pack things.

Essential trip to the supermarket required. DH parked away from the store, hundreds upon hundreds of spaces.

Some fuckwit, who had followed us in, parked right next to us, so close I couldn't even get out of the car. DH drove forward to the next bank of spaces. Fuckwit followed us.

Why???

DH may have been very rude to him as it happens as we got out of the car

NoSquirrels · 20/11/2015 11:14

It's because if you are extremely bad at parking, then if you park next to the large object parked well (the only other car you can see), then you are sure you're within the lines. And that's why they also bang your door and park too close. That's my theory, anyway.

MaxPepsi · 20/11/2015 11:27

I have another theory.

My mum, if she believes the car park will eventually be full before she leaves the shops (if she goes to a retail park, shopping centre for example) she will park next to what she perceives to be a better car. So that will get nicked before hers!!

I can sort of see her logic!!

WicketWoo · 20/11/2015 13:01

Or perhaps because it's easier to park straight if you have another car to line up against (or is that just me...)

BolshierAryaStark · 20/11/2015 13:11

Yep, agree it's people who are shit at parking so need an object to assist.

wasonthelist · 20/11/2015 13:17

Yanbu (to ask) but I have concluded lots of folk just don't think about stuff.

I weng through a phase of parking next to a car that was the same make/model, still not sure why I did that.

cranberryx · 20/11/2015 14:18

People that park too close are my bug bear. Especially if I am in the car. I have had to shift across my passenger seat to get out, luckily DP had the good grace to call the woman a fecking idiot.

I am 38 weeks pregnant, it was justified.

KittyVonCatsworth · 20/11/2015 14:28

It drives my DH crackers too, but he had a "nice" car. My rationale is get a crappy car (as I did) and no-on will park next to you as they will think you don't care if you bash the occasional car door (which I certainly don't do btw)

experiencedhider · 20/11/2015 15:18

Smile at the Patagonia Larks Tongue Mother and know exactly what you mean. I was saying (actually ranting slightly scarily under my breath) much the same in Asda yesterday.

howtorebuild · 20/11/2015 15:23

Some fuckwit, who had followed us in, parked right next to us, so close I couldn't even get out of the car. DH drove forward to the next bank of spaces. Fuckwit followed us.

Sounds like a comedy sketch.

BrianButterfield · 20/11/2015 15:27

MaxPepsi, did the other diver give a reason why they were following you? I once nearly came to blows with an older couple in the supermarket car park (age given as they were well over retirement age I.e. had all bleeding day). I pulled into a small cul de sac part of the car park where the recycling bins were to put some bags in. A quiet spot at the edge and not convenient for the shop so few people about. I decide to drive in and turn round so I am closer to the recycling bin and can drive straight out. As I am turning they drive in and sit at the mouth of the cul de sac right next to the bins. They look straight at me with a look of the saintliest patience, making it apparent they are, for whatever reason, waiting for me to leave. No amount of gesticulation would make them move, so I have to drive out of the area, further up the car park, and turn around AGAIN to get back towards the bins. Meanwhile they have now driven further into the cul de sac and are doing the world's slowest 36484 point turn so I wait for them to finish as they are clearly a menace to me. Once this hour-long manoeuvre is completed, they...drove straight back out again! So they weren't using the bins nor parking. In fact it seemed like they were purely and simply trying to piss me off!

CigarsofthePharoahs · 20/11/2015 16:57

Are these the same people who will insist on sitting next you on an empty train or bus?

TheHiphopopotamus · 20/11/2015 17:02

Are these the same people who will insist on sitting next you on an empty train or bus

And don't forget the pictures! Went to see a film, we were first there, I thought 'I'll get seats right at the front, no one wants to sit there' Hmm

There must have ten other people in. 4 of which were sat at either side of us, with some directly behind and in front. Why, why, WHY?! Angry

kelper · 20/11/2015 17:10

God reading this thread has given me the rage and none of these things have happened to me for ages!!
Although the funniest thing ever is when people follow you down roads when there's a massive traffic jam, blatantly unaware that you're going home down a dead end road and then stop behind you when you want to reverse up your drive, and glare and gesticulate when you put your car in reverse!! Tis very funny then ;)

MrsLupo · 20/11/2015 17:58

If you're so bad at parking that you have to have another car to line up next to, why don't you go to an empty car park and practise til you're better at it -?? Instead of just being a nuisance to other drivers. Or just adjust your mirrors so you can see the WHITE LINES. Hmm

BrianButterfield · 20/11/2015 18:52

Kelper, the times I've had to drive round the block because some idiot is so far up my arse I can't reverse onto my drive are just unreal. They can't reverse because I live too close to the traffic lights so it really screws me when they ignore my indicator and reversing lights.

In fact it makes me laugh whenever MNers get all Highway Code about YOU MUST REVERSE ON TO YOUR DRIVE! I would if I could, sometimes.

deste · 20/11/2015 21:20

DD was given a brand new car by my very generous sister. As she hadn't passed her test yet I drove it to a superstore to give it a run. We parked in an empty part of the car park and yes you've guessed we came out to a car parked next to us and a dent in the door. It had 6 miles on the clock.

minesapintofwine · 20/11/2015 21:55

This reminds me of when I was pregnant and hormonal. I came back to my car to find someone had parked so close I had to climb across the handbrake. Very unlike me, I wrote a pa note and stuck it on their windscreen stating how dare they make me, a woman with child, struggle just because they couldn't park.

I feel really guilty about it now. One because Dh pointed out they had a disabled badge as we drove off Blush . Two because I was only about six weeks pregnant ( and very entitled)

minesapintofwine · 20/11/2015 22:04

not bad parking but bad driving

choccywoccywoowah · 21/11/2015 00:00

Why are people so bothered if someone sits next to them on the bus? I dont get it.

ShamefulPlaceMarker · 21/11/2015 00:10

Wtf us a patagonia larks tongue?

I'm guessing the loop you tie the dog up on?

Darvany · 21/11/2015 00:24

It's a form of confirmation bias and you are creating a nucleus for certain* types of people to follow or "fill".

*unimaginative sheep-like bastards.
