To worry about my baldy toddler?

My DD is nearly 2 and only has the lightest little dusting of hair about 2 cm at its longest and v v thin. I've got pretty used to people commenting on it but it still pees me off when people mention it.

I'm starting to worry a bit about it now as her toddler mates all have lovely long hair. Am I worrying over nothing?

My not sure if she is really just a psycho friend bought her a bunch of clips, bows and hair bobbles the other day that we won't need anytime in the near future unless the hair fairy visits or I buy her a friggin wig. I just said "thanks, I'm sure they will come in handy soon" but inside I was fuming. AIBU to want to clock her or cry?

My DD had zero hair at 2, as did I. I now have extremely thick curly hair. It grows at around an inch a month even now, so pretty fast. I've donated to the Little Princess Trust twice now. Downside is that it takes forever to dry!

My DD is 2.8 now and while hers is still fine baby type hair, it's grown to just on shoulder length in last 3 months and we are getting her first cut tomorrow.

It's still nowhere near the same as her friends yet who all have French plaits and proper hairstyles but she is catching up v fast, and if it's anything like mine she will overtake them soon too.

So in summary don't panic OP, your DD will probably have awesome hair in a few months. Smile

My ds and niece were both bald for a long time and didn't have their first haircuts until they were over 4, in both cases it just suddenly appeared at 3.5 ish, so don't worry.

When I was pregnant I stocked up on baby shampoo Smile, it sat in the cupboard for a very long time!

In our culture the babies head is shaved when born, and it just grows back thick and long.

Lots of kids are still bald/baby haired well in their 2s, and a few into their 3s- although it's only something I've recently made a thing of noticing as DD3 is still very thin on top (20 months)

Do you think your friend was trying to be funny with the hair clips?

If it helps OP I think it is absolutely the sweetest thing on a little girl. My daughter had a right spud for a head when she was two. She has loads of hair now she's 5. I would honestly not worry and maybe make light of it with others.
bet she looks just adorable with it!!
(would do emoticon if I knew how I just don't get it...)

Don't worry! My DD was bald until 2. After that her hair started s-l-o-w-l-y growing in and now, at 4, she has just had her first haircut. Her (beautiful) hair is still pretty short, it's curly and she's getting more of it all the time. It might take a while but I'm sure she's beautiful.

My DD was a baldy and never grew child hair till she was around 5, it was wispy supefine baby hair

She is a strawberry blonde and now at age 10 has past shoulder length gorgeous if not thick hair

She took after me as I was a baldy for a long time as well

DinosaursRoar · 20/11/2015 13:08

DD is 2.5 and has only just filled out all her bald bits, and has chunks that are about 2cm and v fine. (annoyingly, hte back has all started growing a bit thick and curly, so it's even worse as it's thick at the back, bald at the front)

SaucyJack · 20/11/2015 13:10

^^

I had one of the mums at school tell me I should shave DD3's head and it would grow back thicker like her baby's.

Seems like an old wives' tale to me though. I think it's far more to do with the different racial hair types than the cultural practice of shaving.

madamginger · 20/11/2015 13:10

Ds2 has slow growing hair, he was bald till he was 3 and then it got a bit thicker, He's 5 now and still has the blondest, softest baby hair. He's had maybe 5 hair cuts ever!
I suppose it's easier being a boy though
