AIBU?

To think DD(14) should not be wearing a tampon if she's asleep for 14 hours?

She thinks I'm being a fuss pot but I'm worried about toxic shock, which you don't seem to hear much about these days. She certainly hadn't heard of it.

I haven't used a tampon since I had dd, switched to a mooncup and now can go longer without changing and now periods seem shorter.
Overnight I use either a moon cup or just a pad, never needed a night time pad as gravity seems to hold it in, ahem! although certainly need one once i'm upright!
Tampons aren't great, they leave fibres, suck up moisture that's actually supposed to be there (ever tried to remove a tampon too early because you needed to?!) and won't absorb clots and heavy periods properly.
I would tell your dd about the dangers of TSS and persuade her to go for pads/mooncups/other funky coloured cups :D at least some of the time. Theres loads of info on the mooncup website, let her know its there and she can look around herself if shes a bit embarrassed by it all.
I know my dd rolls her eyes at me if I so much as ask if she needs more pads/got some with her!

Cloth san pads are the way to go, they are wonderful!!!!! Read up about them on Youtube, you will never use disposables again!

Think i would rather stick to disposables for the odd occasion i have a period, but if they work for others Smile

I was offered the coil in my early twenties and now my thirties and i have never had a child.
I wouldn't say no if my 14yo had such atrocious periods.
I suffer hormonal headaches, have done since i were a teenager, my doctor actually recommended it to me as an alternative to my pill.

I've never been able to use tampons as silly as that sounds. I tried a few times in my teens mainly if going swimming with school or friends but they never felt comfortable and always felt like they were falling out even though I'd followed the instructions and got it as far back as I could.

It's true though when I was teen in 2001 there was loads about TSS but I read teen magazines and the sex ed teachers also explained about it I don't know if they do now.

I use pads, although my periods are far worse since I had children really heavy for 2 days then taper off but those first 2 days are horrendous, thankfully I'm on the pop pill and they don't come too often! Pads are the most comfortable to me but they aren't to everyone
