To really hate it when they remake classic children programmes as they are always fucking awful?

Why can't they just leave things alone and come up with some original ideas for a change. Instead of ruining my sacred childhood memories?

Last night I made the mistake of typing "Fireman Sam" into the Youtube search box. What appeared made me fucking fume. Gone was the lovingly made original series with puppets and where the fire always looked like it was made out of that orange and red cellophane you used to use in art and craft in school. It was replaced by the most God awful looking CGI rubbish. I'm still getting over Postman Pat having a bloody helicopter now, and this just took the biscuit.

Thomas the Tank is also in CGI now apparently, as is Noddy. I've not watched the new Dangrmouse and Ive no intention of doing so as no doubt that will be shit as well.

Seriously, does this annoy anyone else? CGI doesn't even look good, and I think it will date horribly in years to come.

It starts young - my two dds who are only 9 and 7 are horrified at what Dora has become.

Crazypetlady · 18/11/2015 18:20

I put fireman sam on for ds so I could do some cleaning he is 23 weeks so I could have stuck anything on really. The accents annoyed me I live in wales and have been between north and south a lot and nobody I have met speaks this way

Crazypetlady · 18/11/2015 18:21

Is it only me that see's norman as an entitled brat

DilysPrice · 18/11/2015 18:24

Ahem. Right here.

New DangerMouse is excellent though. We're watching it repeatedly on Iplayer interspersed with our old DVDs of the original series and it's not quite the same but just as good.

TwigsWithStupidLittleLightsOn · 18/11/2015 20:20

I am a huge fan of the original Thunderbirds I still occasionally watch the old episodes now and I'm 31

I think the new ones are excellent. They are interesting and fast paced enough to engage today's kids but there are also some lovely nods to the original series. The 'lemon squeezer' on the wall of TB1's hangar, Brains' stutter, Grandma's terrible cooking, the use of "F.A.B" and the fact we still don't know what it stands for Grin...the list goes on. There was an interesting article recently written about it (Radio Times I think).

But I agree that other remakes are shocking. Postman Pat now has a helicopter, FFS.

I was put off the Clangers remake when I heard they'd shoved Tiny and Small Clanger into pink and blue costumes.

Preminstreltension · 18/11/2015 20:28

The old Fireman Sam with all the lovely John Alderton voices was fab. Loved him and his arch delivery and flirty Welsh/Italian voices. The remake not so much.

Peter Rabbit is an abomination. When I first saw it I thought it was a spoof.

I like the new Danger Mouse though.

Can anyone explain to me why The Muppets is now an adult programme?

That seems wrong on so many levels.

noddingoff · 18/11/2015 21:02

Never mind Dangermouse, when they CGI Fingermouse, I'm out.

TwigsWithStupidLittleLightsOn · 18/11/2015 21:41

Postman Pat still takes an entire episode and fucking things up all over the local area to make one delivery which invariably arrives battered to fuck and full of holes and yet he's still hailed as a hero

ghostyslovesheep · 18/11/2015 21:50

Fingerbobs! just saying Grin

New Clangers is ace Grin - I don't really think of Pat and Sam as 'classics' - that's Bagpuss, Willo and Ivor The Engine

StewandDumpling · 18/11/2015 22:40

I didn't know that Bob the Builder had been CGI'd as well. That's not even that old is it, either?

It's just really shit, lazy programming.

YES!

My husband and I were complaining about this yesterday too as my son has discovered Fireman Sam.

I just kept searching until we found the old school Fireman Sam. (It's soooo much better!)

I also put on some Classic Donald Duck cartoons for him - he loves it.

RoboticSealpup · 19/11/2015 12:24

The new My Little Pony is excellent, actually. Really nicely drawn, and decent plots. Much better than the 90's version, which seemed to have been written and drawn by a drunk in someone's lunch break.
