To sing The Mayonnaise in solidarity with France tonight.

Whether or not you think IBU I'm going to bellow out the words to the Marsellaise when the anthems are played tonight. And it's better than the English anthem by far.

I've known it as the mayonnaise since I was a kid. I admit to belting it out tonight whilst keeping silent during the English anthem.

I stopped halfway through getting Jim jams on to watch it, hope France wins. I shall now always call it The Mayonnaise (but in a respectful way of course).

PolaDeVeboise · 17/11/2015 20:17

Another eejit here that thought the title was on purpose and another name for it Blush.

Taytocrisps · 17/11/2015 20:18

I watch the beginning of the match and yes, I sang the Mayonnaise too :)

Vive La France :)

JillJ72 · 17/11/2015 20:22

J'aime ça!

CalmYoBadSelf · 17/11/2015 20:22

Why be silent for the English anthem though? Surely solidarity involves both sides, not just one.

I think it is lovely to join in and sing both

Sallyingforth · 17/11/2015 20:23

We used to sing the rude version that includes the immortal lines.
...
ou est le papier?
ou est le papier?
...

but out of respect I don't think that's appropriate at the moment.

DoctorTwo · 17/11/2015 20:25

The English anthem is a dirge. Also, I'm an atheist republican. So three reasons not to sing it.

I'm hoping the French Govt might now be inspired to apologise for the terrorist act THEY committed in NZ 30 years ago.

They have refused to apologise all these years, yet there is no doubt the bombing of the Rainbow Warrior in downtown Auckland was state sponsored terrorism.

I'm not holding my breath though.

RockNRollNerd · 17/11/2015 20:59

I believe FetaComplete has won the internets for today and we should all just give up! [grins]

TheHiphopopotamus · 17/11/2015 21:28

This has to be one of the best auto corrects ever Grin

Cheers OP Star

Feta, there is now a tune for mayonnaise makers.

One thing is that a few non French people now know at least one verse of the Marseillaise in French.

Everytime I hear it, I expect the rugby to start.

Pangurban1 · 18/11/2015 09:30

One of the men involved did apologise for his part in Rainbow Warrior incident. It was on the news lately.

That is not the state, of course.

LovelyFriend · 18/11/2015 12:27

There were 2 agents - a man and a woman. According to Wikipedia, once the French Govt & UN applied enough pressure to NZ to have the agents released from NZ jail they spent a short amount of time on a French Pacific Island. Dominique Prieur was allowed to have her husband join her and when she soon fell pregnant she was returned to France. The other agent, Alain Mafart, was also quickly released from his tropical island jail, where he was returned to France and swiftly promoted! Both agents have written books about the bombing and therefore profited from it further.

The French Govt - who ordered the attack, have not apologised.

LovelyFriend · 18/11/2015 12:29

Dominique Prieur was also subsequently promoted.
