Yes, I know snow can be a pain...

At least most people don't have to go to work on Saturday. Hopefully it will have all thawed by Monday.

""At least most people don't have to go to work on Saturday. ""

It may depend on where you live, but the biggest employers, do work Saturdays.

Retail, manufacturing, Social Care, Tourism, Services such as Hairdressers, Call Centres.

When I worked in Home Care (many years ago), the most vulnerable are at risk during any spell of bad weather.

It cuts off people from Visiting vulnerable relatives, or just visiting elderly relatives, which adds to the increase in MH issues, over the winter.

I love how it looks and how my dog plays in it, but hope it never lasts for more than a day.

I live in the Highlands so dh has already started doing his 50 mile each way commute in the snow. I wouldn't mind a bit actually we can get about locally easy enough if it snows.
Often no option here for snow days though. We can't get to work if the roads are shut Grin it's great when that happens.
In January we woke up one morning to masses of snow. School and roads shut. Spent a great two days sledging on the Hill right outside our back gate and running I'm and out for hot drinks. Hope we get a day or two like that again soon.

Pittacus we all drag out the gas BBQs, wearing our snow/ski gear, stand around chatting and eating while the DCs race around doing snowball fights and making snowmen. DCs drink hot squash, adults drink hot wine (and later, plain or Irish coffees!).

And after a couple of hours in the sunshine, everyone heads back indoors to the warmth, to defrost again and hibernate. We've usually got at least 3 pairs of gloves steaming on the spark guard before we get in as DD has been through so many. but she's then happy to play indoors as well instead of begging us to go out.

We do have fairly sociable neighbours though, including a fairly mad French couple who had the idea during the first bad snows in 2009.

Biddy I am very envious of your neighbours and 'village green'

How fabulous.

I hope you have a summer get together too with loads of bbq and pimms!

ComeInBaldrick · 18/11/2015 11:53

That sounds wonderfull BiddyPop. I'm very jealous!

I'm hoping for a little snow at the weekend and into next week, as we're going to Center Parcs, and the last time we went we had a magical time outside in the swimming pool with snow falling down. So I'd love to do it again.

PrimalLass · 18/11/2015 12:52

Thankfully we do not have snow forecast and it is to be sunny and dry on Saturday.

Dawndonnaagain · 18/11/2015 13:16

Biddy we do something similar with a snowman/snowanimal competition in the close in which we live, it's fun. We find Rubber gloves over mittens/gloves help them to stay dry a little longer!

I bought 2 sledges last weekend (Trespass 11.99). My youngest child is 16.... I bought them for me really because I went sledging with my 2 young nephews last Christmas.

But since I live in the south of England I don't think I'll be using them just yet. Xmas Sad

ReallyTired · 18/11/2015 13:21

Your sledges have cursed us! We will never have snow now....

Sorry Really you're right. I should never have said that. I take it all back immediately.

Repeat after me: I hate snow, I hate snow, I hate snow

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 18/11/2015 13:35

Oh bugger, it looks like its coming on saturday in Essex.

CoffeeAndOranges · 18/11/2015 14:06

Don't suppose we'll get any where we are but it would be pretty cool, although if I go into labour over the weekend it would add an extra frisson of excitement to the hospital run. Thankfully we're not far from the hospital so shouldn't be an issue.

Biddy a snowy bbq sounds like the best thing ever - much more fun than summer when everyone's doing it and you keep getting plagued by wasps!!

Flumplet · 18/11/2015 14:46

Naah! That's not going to snow. Not where I am in the midlands. If I see a single centimetre of snow in my back garden, i promise i will do a dare of mumsnet's choosing.

ChristmasZombie · 18/11/2015 14:55

I'd like to order some snow for the Midlands, please!
I love snow. I love winter.
