So I want to take my daughter and her friend to a event at the NEC. I am terminally ill so need to take a carer with me as I tire easily and sometimes need help. You get a free ticket for a carer to help you. So I get a 3 or 2 offer and think, great i'll book that. I've rang up to book the tickets but they have refused to honour the the 3 for 2 offer as I am already getting a "free" carers ticket!!!
AIBU to think that this is shite, just because I am ill that I can't get the offer available to everyone else??
Its really pissed me off!!!

Let me check I've got this right.

You want to take 2 children to the NEC plus you, plus a carer. 4 people in total.

If that's the case them absolutely you should get the 3 for 2 offer, if you are paying for 3 tickets. Otherwise someone who is not ill could take their 2 children and get one in for free, you shouldn't be disadvantaged by needing a carer.

If you don't get any luck, could you order 3 tickets (getting one free) then phone up to say you need a carer and can you have a free carers ticket?

That does suck. If they offer a free carer in order to make the event accessible it should be available however you're booking. Are they legally obliged to offer the free carer or is it something they do to try and look nice

I'm guessing your carer's ticket is dependent on you buying a full price ticket, which if you have used the 3 for 2 offer you wouldn't have done. That's just a guess though-can you have the terms and conditions for the free carer's ticket sent to you?

It is quite common for places not to allow you to use more than one "discount" at once. Would it be worth talking to the cab?

ArcheryAnnie · 16/11/2015 18:08

I think you are right - the carer isn't there to see the show, but to assist you. So the 3 for 2 offer of tickets to see the show should still apply. I have had excellent results by mentioning the Equality Act 2010 when institutions are being arses about accessibility matters.

And blimey, OP - I am so sorry to hear of your diagnosis. Thanks

Good luck in getting the NEC to behave properly on this, and I hope you and your daughter enjoy the event, whatever it is.

The carer's ticket isn't a "discount" though- it's a reasonable adjustment.

The OP would pay full price for her ticket- the free ticket would be one of the children's. And don't say that 3 for 2 discounts each ticket, otherwise I could buy 2 tickets for the price of 1 and 1/3.
