not a thread for opinions, debate, arguments, just to offer solidarity and condolences if you wish.

water and electricity supplies have been distrupted. 60% of the city's 1m population has already been displaced.

Yes, absolutely Isis is at fault, yes absolutely the killings in Paris were abhorrent but when we will learn??

650,000 dead Iraqis, 220,000 dead Afghans and we wonder why people are radicalised?

I am a pacifist, defend our borders, yes, but we do not have the right to wreak destruction on other nations whose instability can be traced back to western interference.

I am not religious but I hope and pray for a miracle and wish the western leaders the wisdom to step back from the bombs, to strive for peace, tolerance, forgiveness and understanding. Use our might to protect not destroy.

I have as much sympathy for the people of Paris as I do for all those anywhere in the world who have been murdered and that includes anyone that the French bombers killed after their raids over this weekend.

killing someone is wrong. that includes revenge air attacks, suicide bombers, army personnel engaged in a "war", capital punishment.

I would much sooner have seen the bombers caught alive and brought to justice and if found guilty kept locked away for a very, very long time.

Rudolf Hess was sent to Spandau prison for life and life sentence meant life. he died in his 90's and had begged to be executed. keeping him alive, reminding him and others every day of what he had done was a powerful and effective thing to do in my opinion.

you cannot pick and choose whose innocent life is worth more than someone elses. I didn't notice facebook asking you to put the Russian flag on your profile as a mark of respect.

The Facebook colour thing has really fucked me off and I can't articulate why. It's a strange feeling as normally they're just mildly irritating.

Gamerchick last night I had a message from a facebook "friend" saying that he was going to unfriend anyone who in the next 24 hours didn't do the colour thing on facebook. saved me the job of doing it. its this public grief shit that I just don't get. same with princess Di. why do I have to tell everyone it upsets me and why does colouring my page in the tricolour say this anyway.

The Garissa attack was in April and simply rose to the top of the BBC news website because of people clicking onto it to make a point about events happening elsewhere around the world. Then it confused other people who clicked on thinking there had been another attack.

I really don't understand those saying people shouldn't mourn Paris without mourning events in other countries. Its completely ridiculous to imply racism when the reality is that its just very close to home and therefore seems more shocking plus it was an attack on such a large scale. At the same time, the amount sheeplike behaviour from everyone about their grief over Paris is also somewhat distasteful IMO.

The events on Friday were truly appalling. But we don't need to be told to post words about how we feel. Neither do we need to be directed to put the tricolour over Facebook profiles.
