AiBU to let ds chose his on party theme?

So Ds is going to be 5 soon. He loves Angry Birds at the moment. It's a phase. He plays it occasionally on my phone. But he plays it imaginatively a lot at home on his own and in school. That is, pretending he is an angry bird and his friends are the bad piggies, that sort of thing.
He doesn't own any Angry bird toys.
He told me. He would like e an Angry bird birthday cake when I asked him.
I kind of expected him to say that.
My dh wants to get him a Minion cake as he thinks his Angry bird "obsession" is weird.
Ds doesn't really care much for Minions. He's seen the movies but doesn't really play it in any way.
I can see how excited he would be if the was an Angry bird one.
AiBU or is dh? I feel he's only 5 once and why not get him m what he wants Dh thinks he will like a Minion cake and thinks that's the end of it a day we should encourage his weird obsession.
In re grand scheme of things, this is such a non issue I know. But I feel my dh is sucking the joy out of it a bit and is being unreasonable.

My DS does actually like minions so he has a minion cake.

If your husband wants a minions cake suggest he have one for his own birthday and go with the cake your son has chosen and actually wants. I didn't get a Colin the caterpillar cake the one at that age year I wanted one and believe me I remember not getting that cake!

Your DH is being totally ridiculous. Angry birds is not a weird obsession, it's a totally normal 5 year old thing to like. My DS was at a 6 year old angry bird themed party not so long ago and I managed to get the birthday boy angry bird pj's, card and wrapping paper I was very chuffed with myself

Confused why Angry Birds is a strange obsession. To me a strange obsession would be something totally random like shoelaces or the wheelie bin.

This really made me giggle! Reminded me of my eldest son's third birthday, he was completely obsessed with traffic lights. We had traffic light cake and biscuits and all sorts! Quite frankly when he wanted angry birds for his fifth (and sixth) birthday I was happy it was a bit more mainstream! He's now into plants vs zombies - wish me luck fashioning a pea shooter out of fondant!

Could it be that your DH isworried about what people will think. As in they'll assume that because his party is AB themed you must let DS sit glued to a phone or tablet all day or something? If so he's being ridiculous. Glad he's come around and DS is getting the party he really wants.

Surely that's what kids do? Mine have had full on obsessions with tons of things over the years.... Only replaced by the next latest thing.

My son wants a camouflage cake with mud, trenches and cargo netting. So basically a shit coloured cake !

I hope your DH doesn't tell your son that his liking for angry birds is weird, it's totally normal for little boys to get obsessed about stuff (dinosaurs, superman etc etc) why would a minions obsession be any better? Being told you are weird is pretty horrible for any kid.

And why wouldn't he want a little boy have the cake he wants and watch his little face light up with excitement when he sees it?

And even if wheelie bins were their thing you'd just have a wheelie bin theme wouldn't you instead of trying to make them go for a more 'sensible' (Minions, what are those weird little things anyway?!) theme.

Totally! Yorkshapud think you could be right. He does tend to worry what other people think too much. Love that cake. I've just ordered a very angry cake!
Dh actually just read my post and before he evenread the responses knew he was wrong. I made him read the responses though. Just to be certain.

I don't think it's a strange obsession at all!! Also, the angry birds movie comes out May 2016 so your DS is just ahead of the curve!

You could even do games where you create structures out of boxes and have to flick paper mâché birds at them to knock them down!

My 7 and 9 year olds both love the angry birds and have never played the computer game. They've got a "real" version with plastic bricks, pigs, catapults etc and they love it.

Yanbu, it's your sons birthday, angry birds is a normal obsession for his age, get your DH a minions cake when it's his birthday.

Angry birds is a totally normal 'thing' for a young kid to be into.

Mine went through an angry birds stage in the first half of this year - they both had Angry Birds Easter bonnets. They were amazing, we had all the angry birds bursting out of eggs and little piggies dangling from the brim
