Cleaning my toilet today, with a bog brush, thinking "oooh, if mnet could see me now" but then i got to thinking, so what exactly would i clean my toilet with if not for a bog brush that i pay 50p from tesco and replace often?

I live in a hard water area and limescale, general crud builds up really quickl Blush So what else would i scrub at that with???

or should i be using fairy wings or something?

Bleach, scrub with brush, flush holding brush in the flow, more bleach all around and in water, leave brush to soak until all germs are dead.

I only recently learned about the MN loo-brush thing! Very illuminating.

Have always used a loo-brush, but I tend to wash the loo-brush more thoroughly than the loo itself! Especially after toddler DD thought it was a fun toy.

It has never occurred to me that a guest might use it to clean the loo, so good to know. Will make sure to do extra loo-brush cleaning if guests are present just in case.

bleach - that usually works - sometimes a bit of bog roll (thanks kids) is needed

I am not anti bog brush I just don't like them - I'm not a fan of throwaway plastic

I use my husbands toothbrush, polishes the bowl up a treat.

Mind you, his breath stinks.

I use a loo brush and other MN rules I happily break are that I think Clarks kids' school shoes and bras fitted by the new M&S bra fitters are good. There are probably others.

I bit the bullet and bought loo brushes today, after 25 years of not having one. I've always thought they were really unhygienic, but partly gave in because of the 'guests' issue mentioned by dowager. I may live to regret it; it's one more thing to keep clean .

Do you know there are poo transplants now?

If you are suffering fro a bad bug like c.difficile, you can get a poo transplant with all those lovely bugs from someone else's' poo to recolonise your gut.

I'm not suggesting that you clean the loo with your sandwich, but I also think that we are all gone a bit crazy about having everything cleaner and more aseptic than an operating room (except the poo transplant room, obv).

Bugs are good for you.

Our loos are cleaned once a week. We use gloves and a cheap microfibre cloth which is rinsed in the basin and then washed in the washing machine. The rest of the time loo paper is used to make sure all poos are dispatched cleanly with the flush, should they hang around.

Positioning on the loo in the correct manner is essential for a smooth transfer without that half in half out beached whale, streaky situation.

Make sure you're sitting comfortably, and in the right place, and the poos will hit the sweet spot in the water Grin and you'll never have to think about a bog brush again.

Ha ha ha at the pincer tooth brush technique. I bet their immune systems are superb!

TheDowagerCuntess · 14/11/2015 00:21

Positioning is all well and good on your own, familiar loo - but chances of a nothing-but-net positioning on someone else's loo; not so high.

Besides, people with bowl issues and older generation types tend to have, um, less than solid deposits. All potentially mortifying for a guest who finds themselves without a brush to clean up afterwards.

TheDowagerCuntess · 14/11/2015 00:22

Ha ha, bowl issues. And bowel issues...

EchoOfADistantTide · 14/11/2015 04:51

I used to use one until toddler DS came up behind me and brushed my hair with it. No thanks!!

Sorry, but I laughed Blush

Jhm9rhs · 14/11/2015 04:58

I use a cheap toilet brush and replace monthly. If I used gloves, I'd only chuck them. As for sticking my hand down, not for me.

CheerfulYank · 14/11/2015 05:34

People are so weird about the toilet brush thing.

I have one of the removable handle thingies but I don't really think it's any better.
