I read a longer version to my 3 year old earlier this week and I'm really not sure about the poor Giant.

Giant is doing nothing wrong, Boy breaks into house and Wife hides him. He steals some Gold

Boy breaks into house again and steals golden goose

Boy breaks into house again and steals harp

Boy ends up chopping down tree and kills giant.

Poor Giant. :(

I do like the Roald Dahl poems - LRRH killing the wolf to make a coat

Into The Woods is a bit weird - funny but quite grim.
