to be worried because my flat is full of gas?!

Just got home, DH is at work. He left at about 4/4.30. I could smell gas when I walked in and found one of the hobs full on in the kitchen. It's a small flat, just a one bed. I'm pregnant and we have two cats (who seem fine). I've opened a few windows as much as I can and turned one light on when I got in but I'm scared to touch anything else. Is there anything else I should do?!

Sorry, end of 3 long days at work and I haven't eaten properly since yesterday lunchtime. I seem to have lost the ability to think straight...

I'm assuming that the people who suggested calling the emergency services don't have a gas hob or gas central heating because it states on every gas bill who to contact if you smell gas.
I have had British Gas out a couple of times due to gas leaks. And they treat it like an emergency.

Bunbaker what with everything being online now I didn't have anything to hand with the gas emergency hotline number on so was very glad of the Internet! Will have the number close to hand in future...

To be honest I'd not have even called the gas emergency number.

If you left a tap on that overflowed the bath, you wouldn't call a plumber would you? You'd turn the tap off and clean up the mess.

If it's clearly a case of a hob left on and not a leak, calling a gas engineer is just as pointless as calling 999 IMO. All you can do is turn it off and wait for the gas to dissipate.

She didn't know it wasn't a leak. Lots of smart Alecs here....

Ah. I missed that. I thought she was speculating about the cats.
