To be furious at fireworks tonight?

I hate them at the best of times, think they should only be for licensed events not back gardens, but they've been going off all evening and I'm about ready to explode! It's Remembrance Sunday FFS there could not be a worse time to do it!!

My poor DDog is suffering again tonight, he starts shaking at the first 'pop' and can't calm down for ages. It's only been tonight and last night thankfully, absolutely nothing last week.

NellyTimes · 08/11/2015 20:13

How on earth is it disrespectful to have them on Remembrance Day? Are the fireworks spelling out "fuck you, veterans!" or something? Is the Catherine wheel in the shape of a swastika? Get a grip.

moggle · 08/11/2015 20:16

Can someone explain why it's disrespectful? I understand why people don't like back yard fireworks but I don't understand why having them on Remembrance Sunday is additionally disrespectful?

NeedsAsockamnesty · 08/11/2015 20:18

I've got a neighbour lighting one every 7 minutes.

Now that is annoying

ghostspirit · 08/11/2015 20:19

i dont think its disrespectful. people maybe go to remembrance day. join in the silence. and then depending on peoples choices they go on with their day.

i dont think there is a problem letting of fire works. i also dont think people should have to stop because of small children or animals. im sure when the small children who are scared in a few years time or what ever they will be enjoying fire works to.

but i do kind of agree with the leave it to professionals. but also maybe there are not enough displays close enough to home.

caravanista13 · 08/11/2015 20:21

Disrespectful? Ridiculous.

trapdooragain · 08/11/2015 20:22

it has absolutely pissed it down over here and they still set off ww2 this has been going on since last weekend im dreading new year

DartmoorDoughnut · 08/11/2015 20:23

I think it is disrespectful as they sound like bombs/guns going off, hardly what veterans and serving forces alike want when they're remembering their friends.

budgiegirl · 08/11/2015 20:27

I attended a service this morning, wore my poppy, paid my respects, but this evening when NDN had fireworks, we watched them, then lit some sparklers. I really don't think it's disrespectful.

I can understand that for some dog / cat owners it might be annoying (luckily our dog doesn't get frightened) , but it never even crossed my mind that it could be disrespectful.

SoupDragon · 08/11/2015 20:33

...and they still set off ww2

What is fucking disrespectful is comparing fireworks to WW2.

trapdooragain · 08/11/2015 20:35

its a mile away and sounds like its in my lounge it it too loud way too loud and sorry lived with a vet for years he hated fireworks because of what it reminded him of

after more than a week of fireworks im pissed off

ShipwreckedAndComatose · 08/11/2015 20:39

Disrespectful? No.

LuisSuarezTeeth · 08/11/2015 20:47

Don't understand the problem. Remembrance Day services were earlier in the day.

starlight2007 · 08/11/2015 20:48

I don't get the disrepectful thing either..Took my Ds to church today... Bought and wore poppy's..We haven't done anything firework related but have heard fireworks and not once did it occur to me it had any relevance to WW2..It is about guy fawkes

Whether home fireworks should be banned is a completely different

PaulAnkaTheDog · 08/11/2015 20:51

Finding it disrespectful is the height of ridiculous hysteria. As for the poster (can't remember who) who brought up ptsd: I highly doubt they are fine the rest of the year and rememberance Sunday suddenly makes fireworks too much. Hmm

Bombaybunty · 08/11/2015 20:52

I really don't understand what is disrespectful about letting fireworks off on Remembrance Sunday?

There are always fireworks for a couple of weeks either side of November 6th.

YABVU.

pictish · 08/11/2015 20:54

I agree - letting off fireworks is not a sign of disrespect on Remembrance Sunday. Get a grip.

DartmoorDoughnut · 08/11/2015 21:03

Starlight Fawkes = 5th Nov not every night near to the 5th.

Paul If you can't make the link between explosions, fireworks and ptsd I'm not convinced you should leave your house tbh Hmm

OP posts:
pictish · 08/11/2015 21:07

I'm making the link between you not liking fireworks and using Remembrance Sunday as tenuous reason to moan about them.

SparklyLeprechaun · 08/11/2015 21:18

I hate fireworks and think they should be banned for home use. But YABU. It is not any more disrespectful to set them off on Remembrance Sunday than on any other day of the year.

PaulAnkaTheDog · 08/11/2015 21:20

Dartmoor I'll ignore your insult and direct you back to my post.... Perhaps read before insulting people, hmm?

ifyoulikepinacolada · 08/11/2015 22:19

Hang on a minute - remembrance sunday celebrations frequently involve gun salutes. If that's acceptable in light of ptsd triggers I don't think fireworks are any worse?

PaulAnkaTheDog · 08/11/2015 22:26

pinacolada careful now! You will be accused of being dumb for that comment.

yorkshapudding · 08/11/2015 22:38

I wouldn't mind if it was for one night, or just over a weekend but round here it's been every night for two weeks so it's starting to piss me off now.

I don't think the argument about Rememberance Sunday holds up to be honest. Yes, the sound of fireworks can trigger PTSD in some ex service personell but, in that case, they would be triggered whether it was remembrance Sunday or not. Unless you ban all fireworks on the grounds that they MAY potentially exacerbate PTSD symptoms in some sufferers then there's not much that can be done about that really.

PaulAnkaTheDog · 08/11/2015 22:41

yorkasha exactly! Pointless argument really.
