How worried should I be about DD's friend's family having guns in the house?

DH returned DD's friend home today after a play date and was invited in. In their living room they have about twenty guns in a cabinet (made of wood, with a bar across the guns and a lock at one end). DH was a bit gobsmacked and kept starring at the guns so they explained that they belong to the father who is a keen hunter.

We are not in the UK and I have no idea how guns should be kept here but I don't like this at all. I will come out and say I don't like guns being kept in homes but if you must have them they should be out of sight of children. Do i trust this guy to know what he is doing with regards to gun safety around children?

DD is 4yo so too young to fully understand what she should do if anyone had access to a gun. The family have older DCs who may or may not share their dad's hobby.

YANBU to worry and ultimately I think your child is the most important thing in this scenario. Follow your gut, although of course you will probably bemuse/possibly offend the family in the process if you limit your child's time spent in their house.

If locked it wouldn't bother me.

However I grew up with a Hunter and before guns had to be locked away so they were just hung on the wall in my mum and stepdads bedroom

We knew not to touch I was almost scared of looking at them

My dad had shot guns, but they were kept in a specially designed locked box in the under stairs cupboard, behind boxes and my dad had the keys on him all the time. If they are on display I'd be worried.

The set up you've described (in a cabinet, locked bar across) is a common way of keeping guns in rural France, in all honesty. It wouldn't personally trouble me, but you need to do what feels right to you in this case.
