My MiL has just dropped by and given me a freshly caught (this afternoon) trout. What in fresh hell am I supposed to do with it?!?

I love my MiL and was very appreciative but all the time thinking wtf?!? Tbf she is lovely and is never very odd. Just thought this was quite random.

So wise MNers what the hell do you do with a random trout?

Tear off a piece of foil, put fish in middle. Stick a lemon or any herbs you may have in the belly and a know of butter in on top. Bit of black pepper. Put in oven. Easy and very tasty.

God I love Mumsnet. All these people horrified that the OP doesn't know how to gut and cook a fresh fish

I don't even think I've ever seen a whole fresh fish (bar on the fish counter, which I never actually visit) and I'm sure the majority of people I know haven't either.

I doubt most people on here know how to gut a fish, but it's not rocket science to cook one.

Don't know how to or want to TBH. I give the fish counter a wide berth.

Mmm fancy fish for lunch now...
