To point out a spelling mistake on a brand-new tattoo?

Someone I used to work with has posted a picture of their new tattoo. I haven't really been following them much recently but I guess that tragically they must have had a recent loss as the tattoo refers to an angel baby who was too beautiful for earth. However it has been spelt "angle baby, to beautiful for this world"...I am totally stuck on this one. The person is totally in love with the tattoo and is oblivious to anything being wrong, as are their friends who are commenting. If it were not such a meaningful tattoo then I probably would quietly send a tactful message to point it out in case something can be done quickly. But I feel awful saying anything that could be seen as criticism of a tattoo relating to such an emotive subject. WIBU to say anything or would you leave it?
WWYD?

Say nothing.

catfordbetty · 07/11/2015 10:29

Someone will tell them. Don't let it be you.

StayWithMe · 07/11/2015 10:31

I think you need to send them a, very kindly worded, private message so the tattooist can fix it.

Fairylea · 07/11/2015 10:34

Say nothing. They won't thank you for it. Let someone else say it, and they will.

Destinysdaughter · 07/11/2015 10:34

And people say spelling isn't important...well this is one reason why it is!

Norest · 07/11/2015 10:34

I would probably say it, very VERY tactfully and kindly. And I would do it because it is an emotive subject. What if her picture ends up on one of those pisstake 'bad tattoo' sites for example? And then she feels people are laughing at it?

That would be way worse.

Mermaidhair · 07/11/2015 10:35

I think it's best to not say anything. Someone closer to them will.

Notthecarwashagain · 07/11/2015 10:38

2 spelling mistakes in such a meaningful tattoo is very awkward to mention.
I'd pretend I hadn't seen it and let someone 'closer' hopefully tell them.

Oysterbabe · 07/11/2015 10:39

I was in almost exactly the same situation. The tattoo said In Loving Memory of are Angel.
In the end I said nothing, I didn't want to add any further stress. Some of these tattoo studios need to be shut the fuck down.

There's no way you can do it and not risk coming across as callous. Leave well alone.

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 07/11/2015 10:43

is it visible and on show??

Someone will tell for sure.

Junosmum · 07/11/2015 10:47

I couldn't not. I'd have to write a message, something about ho sorry I was for their loss but...

Coz someone else will, and possibly not tactfully or kindly. I suspect others have noticed but are too afraid to say something.

How can you get such a simple spelling wrong between the tatooist and the client!?!

It's two such obvious mistakes that someone closer to them will say. If it was in some obscure language that only you and 4 other living people spoke it would be different (although I guess you'd shut up about that too for different reasons).

Basically do nothing. But honestly how can this happen? It's shocking.

73dexter · 07/11/2015 10:53

Lol at http!!

I wouldn't say anything.

Destinysdaughter · 07/11/2015 10:54

Think it's a job for 'The Tattoo Fixers'...

NoArmaniNoPunani · 07/11/2015 10:54

You've spelt tattooist wrong.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 07/11/2015 10:56

Oh no! Tricky. Can the tattoo "artist" Hmm actually fix something like that? Won't it look wonky no matter what they do?

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 07/11/2015 10:58

Tattoos are so expensive though that I might say something just so they could get their money back. If it cost £200 or something I'd be even more pissed off if I were them.

Twinklestein · 07/11/2015 11:03

Someone will tell her, you're not close enough to justify it being you.

GreenPotato · 07/11/2015 11:04

Tattoo studios really should employ a proofreader! It would be v easy to have one on a small retainer and text them over a pic of each design.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 07/11/2015 11:05

When it comes to word tattoos, the tattooist will check and double check that the client is happy with the spelling. Although it's quite sad that the tattooist can't spell either, this will be entirely the responsibility of the client. Depending on size, £200 is cheap for a tattoo

originalmavis · 07/11/2015 11:06

That is very sad. I would probably keep quiet unless it was someone very close to me.
