to get annoyed at how, when a series ends they kill off most of the main characters.

Why is it, when a series comes to an end, the producer feels the need to kill off most of the main characters? They seem to think the viewers want the character killed because it ties things up nicely

But to me it seems like a lazy way of doing things and it's put me off watching any more box sets action ones at least
What's the point of getting invested in characters when you know they're only going to get knocked off in the season finale?

It happens a lot. Why? Confused

"
At least no one died in Friends."
Have you forgotten Mr wotsit and estelle? And didn't ugly naked guy die, or did he move in the end?

GoblinLittleOwl · 07/11/2015 18:27

Well, I am simply furious about Howard's death in Doctors, and the fact that Emma lost the baby too. For once, I thought, a simple happy tale of two middle-aged people in love, with a baby to cope with (at their age!); months and months of plot lines.
Instead of which, they ruined it.

Lweji · 07/11/2015 18:34

I forgot who died in the end of Desperate Housewives! Shock
But, then that's one where the main character died in the beginning, and with the huge body count, who can keep up?

NoAdventureNoTime · 07/11/2015 19:40

Angel was cancelled, why? It was far superior than Buffy which got too cartoony by the end. I'm also going to pretend you didn't say anything about Spike being in a spaceship.

Ugly naked guy moved and ross hung out with him naked to be able to buy his apartment!

ghostyslovesheep · 07/11/2015 19:56

If they kill John Snow they will have a riot on their hands ... erm...

Lweji · 07/11/2015 20:08

The riot hasn't happened yet because we know Jon Snow has not died. He will be in the next series.

PseudoBadger · 07/11/2015 20:23

Jon Snow isn't dead. They sent him to enjoy old age on a lovely farm in the countryside.

Prison break was so sad. I also had a complete meltdown when they killed off stringer bell in the wire (i mean, WHY would you kill off idris elba? Who does that).

Lndnmummy · 07/11/2015 20:34

On the plus side if you are enders fan, most dead people come back about 10yrs later

I saw Hamlet last week for the first time in about 15 years. Horatio and Fortinbras are the only ones left standing in the final scene, so it's not just modern script writers using this dramatic device!

Lweji · 07/11/2015 21:55

Shakespeare doesn't exactly put people in dramas walking towards the sunset.

StormyBlue · 07/11/2015 22:08

I recently rewatched BtVS so looked this up! The network wanted to pull it, so viewing figures probably. They wanted to pull it at the end of season 4 but held off when James Marsters agreed to join the cast because he had a lot of fans. I think it would have been a lot neater to end at the end of season 4 when Wolfram and Hart got taken out though tbh. Against popular opinion, I really liked s6 of Buffy, but s7 was the worst imo.

Duckdeamon · 07/11/2015 22:27

Grin jessica fletcher.

I have a friend who would KILL to write the script for that one!
