To think the new James Bons film is shite?

I'll state that, I'm not a big fan of action films, but I was made to go along by my wife who's a big fan of Bond films. I've feigned a call of nature so I can get a break from it.

God it is so bloody loud. It seems to be a series of fights, car chases and glamorous locations with just enough dialogue to move the action onto the next bit and Daniel Craig is so wooden you could slap creosote on him.

ooh dear I knew M reminded me of someone! He'll have to look after Blofeld's cat and rename it Vienna!

itsthecircleoflife · 06/11/2015 21:26

The ending has confused me. Is that it completely now?!

I thought it was awful. People are saying 'classic bond', but that was what the Daniel Craig reboot was trying to move away from.

Casino Royale, Quantum and Skyfall were decent (Quantum was the weakest tho) spy action thrillers with great characters and strong storylines that just had a character called James Bond in. They weren't 'classic bond' films. Mass appeal and didn't rely on gimmicks, cartoony gadgets and saucily named Bond girls.

Spectre had undeveloped characters, underused actors (poor Waltz and Lea Seydoux) and a storyline which basically boiled down to 'daddy didn't love me enough'. I thought I was watching a particularly dramatic travelogue.

Tondyela or Ponsonby which was Reggie Perin's cat. Seems I'm not alone in noticing a resemblance.

I liked it.

It is a Bond film. More about the action and the special effects than the storyline, although I like that too and find it easy to follow amongst all else.

They seem to be bringing Bond's own dysfunctional family and upbringing into it these days.

The ending may not have been a total full stop, but it leaves the way open for further films.

I like Daniel Craig in the role, though the Bonds of my childhood were Sean Connery and Roger Moore. All good, but all a bit different.

MajesticWhine · 07/11/2015 10:10

I really liked it. Agree the female lead was weak though. I couldn't quite believe him risking his life for her at the end. I would have left her in the about to explode building. And it was a bit too long but I think that about any film longer than two hours.

StillDrSethHazlittMD · 07/11/2015 10:15

I couldn't believe the huge raves Skyfall got. I found it incredibly obvious plot wise (ie, clearly a certain character was going to die and a certain other character was going to take over) and the last section was basically James Bond does Home Alone.

Casino Royale was so, so much better and I thought here comes a series of really good films that perhaps have a little more to do with the original books and original character. But it seems not.

I can't decide if I will bother with Spectre.

Bambambini · 07/11/2015 10:20

I thought the female lead was great. Not so keen how they handled Monica Belluci or what her name is. Bond's treatment if her was a bit cold and creepy. Bond is a bit if a cold blooded killing sociopath though.

GloriousGoosebumps · 07/11/2015 10:29

I loved it. Saw it on an IMAX screen and loved the opening scenes. As for the plot, it's a Bond movie - you know you'll get car chases, beautiful women, fights and a scenes from around the world. They do it very well.

James Bond does Home Alone Grin- what a great description

TheWrathofNaan · 08/11/2015 00:51

Glorious- I watched it in an imax too. First film I have seen in one.

LadyHonoriaDedlock · 08/11/2015 00:57

Bond by numbers. At least the cinema we saw it in sold wine!

LittleLionMansMummy · 08/11/2015 01:13

I liked it and I loved the action sequences, however far fetched. It was a return to the cheesier Bond though, with a return to the clichéd one liners and predictable drinks order. I loved Casino Royale because it broke the Bond mould. This was inferior to that particular film and a tad on the long side but a decent way to spend a couple of hours.

DP and I went on Friday night. I slept through all of it apart from the first ten minutes. Felt quite refreshed after.

ComposHatComesBack · 08/11/2015 07:50

And the bloody product placement, it wasn't even subtle!
