To not get the hype about Christmas adverts

Am I just being a grinch? I can't understand the level of excitement about the John Lewis advert or the Coca Cola Lorry. When did it even become a thing? I'm not religious so I'm not even bothered about the commercialization of Christmas but I can't get excited about a TV ad.

YANBU. I don't watch much tv so never saw any of the JL ads in previous years but half my FB friends posted today about the man on the moon one so I watched it. Conclusion - meh. I didn't cry and it didn't make me feel warm or fuzzy. I love the nationwide scarf one though!

As for the coca-cola truck. What in the name of Santas beard is all that about! One comes to my town every year and judging by FB pics people haul their kids out in the freezing cold, and the crowds are ENORMOUS you'd think the bloody queen had come to town. And they all have the obligatory picture, but all you can see is a red background and a few lights. I find it very bizarre - what is so special or exciting about a truck? Does it do anything untruck-like? or do people just stand looking at it for ages Confused

YANBU and it REALLY annoys me that people buy into this shite marketing.

Big companies "owning" the Christmas spirit like this.

Red cups at whatever stupid coffee chain...

The cocoa cola lorry

John Lewis.

None of these have anything to do with the Christmas Spirit.

I love Christmas. I start feeling Christmassy in October honestly. It's my favourite time of the year. I love the decorations, the food, having all my family around, buying presents. Christmas adverts are a visual representation of something I love and they bring me joy every time I see a good one, and I don't see what's wrong with a little joy now and again. It doesn't bother me in the slightest when other people don't love them too however.

I hear you outfoxed and I also would like to echo what 'stumps' said at the beginning of the thread. This year I have one of the old fashioned 'like my mum gave me' advent calendars with the Windows.... Takes me back to excitment and days going slowly, the only time of year we had really nice food, the drinks cabinet, the racoons movie and my lovely Nan Still being alive.... Happy times
I am intelligent enough to know when I am being sucked in or 'what it's all about' but I enjoy it.... Those little nuggets :)
