Babbafish · 06/11/2015 01:38

Why do I see so many responses from idiotic mothers who claim they moved their child to Aptamil because it's closer to breastmilk than any other formula!!!!
It's ADVERTISING..... Unless Aptamil are milking humans ..Its never going to be close to breastmilk!!!

Where have you seen these? Confused

KP86 · 06/11/2015 01:46

A bit like people who buy and use toddler milk for children 12m+. Unless there is a medical reason children do not need special formula post 12 months. Most are fine to move onto cow's milk.

catsofa · 06/11/2015 01:47

I've seen loads of people say this, YANBU, it's a pile of advertising horse shit.

Discopanda · 06/11/2015 01:50

My HV with DD1 said that no formula will actually matches breast milk because there are several elements that haven't even been identified but Aptimil is the closest so far. If you are combination feeding, it's just trial and error.

BasicBanana · 06/11/2015 02:16

It's not the closest so far, your HV Is an idiot. They are all pretty much of a muchness, it's a regulated product.

MI6Agent · 06/11/2015 04:35

Aptimal's marketing strategy is aimed at those who breastfeed and wish to switch & and medical professionals who endorse their bullshit products' benefits.

Don't get me started on the advert. Because drinking aptimal is going to turn your baby into a ballerina or a hiker.

Hear you OP.

Onthepigsback · 06/11/2015 06:21

YANBU OP. I've seen similar mention on here and snorted out loud. People are so desperate to believe things like this. I laugh particularly as the same company makes cow and gate. Their box is identical presumedly to reduce tooling and manufacturing costs. I would assume their powder is also identical....unless somehow they go to the effort and cost of intentionally making it inferior....

TheSconeOfStone · 06/11/2015 07:25

YANBU. I fell for this one when desperate and sleep deprived with DC1. I'm usually very cynical about advertising but I was in a dark place. We mix fed with Hipp in the end recommended by another mum. Suited my reflexy baby best.

HCPs who recommend it as being superior for breastfed babies really should know better. Formula is so tightly regulated that it is all totally suitable for babies.

hedgehogsdontbite · 06/11/2015 07:44

YABU as there is a difference. DH is an uber-nerd chemistry prof and he investigated the brands available where we are when DS went onto formula. He concluded that one was chemically as close to breastmilk as it's currently possible to be. Another one, Nestle was as far away as it was legally allowed to be. When he contacted them to ask their reasoning behind this (higher sugar content) their response was 'because we can'. IE it's cheaper.

JumpRope · 06/11/2015 07:55

Midwives told me this too, ds a few days old.

PrimalLass · 06/11/2015 08:14

OP - why does it matter to you? I changed to Aptamil for mix feeding (DS was about 3 weeks old) because SMA smelled disgusting and DS refused it. He loved Aptamil.

PrimalLass · 06/11/2015 08:25

And the ingredients are not exactly the same, which takes a couple of minutes to check and then the myth is debunked ...
