drivers who 'edge out' onto the main road

now is this now okay to do this on a main busy road? i drive down a few roads that contain private schools and the always nearly women drivers always drive out onto the main road so I have to slow down to let them out.(otherwise i would plough into them obv)

This road is a 40 mph road not a small side road so imo it's pretty dangerous yet they do it all the time.

it's unreasonable isn't it? can anyone defend that behaviour?

I think it is ok. Nothing to do with private schools or women drivers but it is kind to let people out of turnings which are hard to get out of.

they do here twirly where do you live? this is north london

Where I live you have to edge out onto main road otherwise you'd never make it to work. Not ideal but when traffic is slow moving or a gap you can go halfway then someone lets you into right side of road

Sometimes you have to or you would never get out

So YABU

I have to peep and creep out of my road or I will be stuck there for hours.

I can barely see with parked lorries so I have to stick my nose out at times. I don't like doing it but don't see any other alternative? My driving instructor used to do the same when leaving mine.

southeastastra · 05/11/2015 21:59

you do not CREEP onto traffic going 50 mph!

twirlypoo · 05/11/2015 22:04

To be fair you do sort of have to own the manoover, creeping on to a dual carriage way will get you killed. Foot to the floor with a bit of balls is better Ds goes private so feel free to ignore my advice though GrinGrin

I am guilty of this particularly when coming home from football matches where traffic is heavy. If other drivers exercised some courtesy and let people out at busy times then there would be no need. I had to do it last night coming away from Celtic Park - had I not done so I might still be there.

AliceTerrapin · 06/11/2015 09:02

I have been win wrong about this. I have lived in the Middle East, India, Bangladesh and spent some time in Lahore recruiting. How on earth do people who move from these places to the UK not cause accidents? Do people adapt? I guess I now ignore many UK rules and wouldnt, for example stop at a roundabout of there was a small gap, it would probably cause an accident if I did. I sometimes picture the outrage of KNees when being faced with the driving which is the norm elsewhere and their bewilderment at being beeped at for It...

Wondering.

There's a difference though, isn't there, between a "peep and creep" (where you're ready to stop if there is something coming) and just edging straight out into traffic.

The first is ok. The second isn't. (Unless the traffic is at a standstill, or if someone slows to let you out.)

I love the way private school mums are automatically idiots and twats - and especially the fact that you're objecting to people 'creeping' out into traffic going at 50mph in a 49mph zone.

Woobeedoo · 06/11/2015 14:09

Woman in a BMW did this to me a good few years back. I was on a 40mph road, she pulled out and clipped my rear bumper. My car had a teeny scuff, her bumper was trashed (I'm not kidding, it would've been a major repair job). She tried to blame me and demanded cash then when I asked for her insurance details she jumped in her car and drove off. Hmm
