Twat that hit the wall

Last night about half ten someone drive into our garden wall. We live on a bend and whoever it was drive down the hill missed the corner, mounted the pavement which is a good five feet wide, made a huge dent in te chevron sign, eventually hiring the large dry stone wall. We were in bed but heard the bang, our neighbour across heard it and went to see if anyone was hurt but the car drive off! So thank you whoever you are leaving us with an unsafe wall, needing to find s dry stone walker to repair it at who knows what cost. So if you hurt yourself then tough!

Do you live in a little village near chipenham called pottene or something like that? I drive round a bend like this most days and in the 25 years ive been driving past the house on the bend it's been trashed quite a few times.

They put up a massive reflective slow sign that appears to have helped.

This fund might help:

I've never heard of that Silent but I'll have a look into it, thank you.
Needs, im in Yorkshire but sounds like a silmilar place. We've had a few near misses but it's the first time we've been hit. It's usually across from us or the next bend from us. I've lost count of the times they've had their walls rebuilt. It's speed, nothing more, it's the edge of a Pennine village not much traffic and it's supposed to be a thirty zone
If people actually drive at thirty they would see the signs of which there are many showing bends and would be able to slow down. Idiots

I second what Silently has said, the Motor Insurers bureau should be able to deal with this for you. The claim form is very simple but they are notoriously slow

I would take before and after photographs etc just to support your case.

JustMeAndHim · 04/11/2015 22:29

Also you will probably be required to report it to the police if you haven't done so already as you will need an incident number

GruntledOne · 04/11/2015 22:46

Does your household insurance cover this?

SilentlyScreamingAgain · 04/11/2015 23:10

I was going to say that the silver-lining here would be watching the wall being rebuilt; I find it utterly fascinating but if it's happening so often and so near, maybe not so much.

SorryCantBeArsed · 05/11/2015 07:24

Thanks for the replies. Our neighbour had reported it to the police so we have a crime number. I'm going to take photos today, with the chevron sign, which is quite tall, having a huge dent and leaning towards the wall plus the wall below pushed inwards, it's easy to see what's happened. It's a call to the insurance this morning to see what they say and I'll look online at motor instance site.
The wall building is brilliant to watch, like a stone jigsaw, nothing to hold it together but it's shape. I don't know how old ours is, it was a huge field before they built in it and the wall was already there.

Does your household insurance cover this?

This, this all over.

Your household policy will have a peril covered call 'Impact', meaning exactly what's happened here. Let them deal with it, give them all the crime reference details and they can recover costs from the MIB.
