To not leave 5* reviews for putting an item into an envelope then posting it?

I'm talking about Amazon, not Ebay. I buy/sell on Ebay and the stars are a great indicator of whether someone appears to be trustworthy or not.

But... Amazon? Most of these are supposedly professional companies. I'm being bombarded with emails from one company pressurising asking me to give them a 5* review for taking my money, putting their product in an envelope and sending it to me.

AIBU or just in a bad mood?

This is the sort of thing that gets my goat but I am a grumpy old gimmer :)

AutumnDragon · 04/11/2015 17:05

Don't necessarily blame the seller for the emails, I never ask for feedback, but Amazon ask for it on my behalf repeatedly

I got an email directly from the company. Oh well. I can always ignore them.

I usually think of 5 stars as does what you would expect. Process, pack and post quickly. Anything less is when i start taking stars off.

ThroughThinkandThing · 04/11/2015 19:57

My default is 5*. I deduct if service is less than adequate. I am, though, more likely to leave a review if the seller is a person rather than a company (ie, if they don't have thousands of reviews already).

Same as when you call the gas/electricity/council/broadband/other for a two second query and then get bombarded with emails requesting "feedback". Oh do piss off.

After you've posted on this thread, I will be sending each of you a direct message asking you to take part in a survey to judge the quality of this thread.

As if.

Well that would be easy. Good SPAG, clear and concise OP, including strikethrough gets you 5*.

However, no toxic MIL, no useless HV, no parking woes, no bridezilla nor present wishlist, no need to call 101 - each cost half a star. So you get ** from me Grin

Just received email requesting feedback on pizza delivery last night. FFS.

Sighing · 05/11/2015 13:41

I don't leave any feedback. It pisses me off as noone ever seems to leave 'average' for having met the T's &C's. So 5 star ratings are for mediocre meeting them. And 1 star because something arrived 1 day later or such. It doesn't give you much to go on.

LauraChant · 05/11/2015 13:45

I left a non-five star review because the item they had put into an envelope was bent in half to fit in the envelope, which made it do its job less well (it was a shaped ice cube tray, the shapes in the middle were warped). I have had a few emails asking me to change it or take it down, if they send me another one, but I can't really be bothered with that - I wanted it for a particular party and I'm not bothered about getting another one, it's nice that they are willing to give me another but it doesn't change the fact that I didn't receive five star service. But I do feel a bit guilty about it.

I buy a lot of old books online. I have dealt with companies who have the book to you within days, it is exactly as described, and sometimes includes a friendly note from the seller. And companies who send the wrong book but immediately deal with the issue often offering a refund and telling you to keep the book.

I have also dealt with companies who make you wait for ages, send the wrong product, try to fob you off, ignore several emails before grudgingly giving you a refund.

There's more to good service from on line sellers than just putting the product in the envelope.
