AIBU to think that if people actually avoided the sort of people they claim to on MN they wouldn't have any friends or contact with extended family ever?

This has been making me Confused recently. I've seen people say they avoid people who really haven't done anything I would ever actually avoid someone over... If I actually paid attention to every tiny thing that is vaguely irritating and cut friends and family out accordingly I wouldn't know anyone!

I also find the language used (and I don't mean swears, which I am partial to) is so strong about minor things on here that it borders on comical. "Your DM said she didn't like your socks? What a vile, selfish, evil cunt! Hope she burns in hell"! Ok slight exaggeration but you know what I mean. Am I the only one who finds this odd?

Despite disagreeing with you earlier on this thread, I actually understand what you mean now.

I had this with a Wendy thread when I was a lurker. I do not believe "Wendys" exist, I have already said on here that if your alleged mates go off with the shiny new friend then you need to get some new pals, also no one can own or dictate a friendship dynamic. So that's my stall set there.

Back to the point..this Wendy thread was swamped with people clearly projecting their "Wendy" experience onto the OP. The OP itself was fairly mild, along the lines of "bit fed up, introduced new friend to established friend and they're off out this efty having a ball, pictures all over FB and they haven't asked me along..."

Well..there were page upon page of "they are CUNTS OP!!!" "FUCKING BITCHES OP, I HOPE THEY BURN IN HELL!!" and similar horrible disproportionate responses. Is this a bit closer to your point which I missed spectacularly earlier on? Grin.

Ah! Those posts!

Those I just ignore. They have bugger all to do with me and I find them very scary! Smile

That's exactly the ones I mean laffy! It must be projection. I hadn't actually thought of that and thought I was losing my mind when I read these responses. So disproportionate and yep, scary! Will avoid from now on.

Glad I got the gist of what you were saying OP, and yes YANBU and I have to agree with you.

I know what you mean. Some people are easily offended. Sometimes my friends piss me off, meh. Some of them hold different political, moral and social views to me, meh. That's life.
