My workplace have updated their website and alongside staff list they want pics of everyone, the thing is, I don't want my photograph on the site, I don't feel comfortable with it, I'm quite a private person, I don't do facebook or any photosharing apps generally and I just don't want it. I am middle management - Is it my right to refuse? AIBU to make a fuss and contact my union if they insist?

God, I would hate that. I don't buy into the corporate bollox though...

Refusing to put your photo on a website won't stop anyone judging you by your physical appearance. They'll just do it in the flesh.

I think it depends where you work unfortunately rather than just whether you can object.

You can object and if many others do too then it won't be a problem, but I would find out what others are doing and try to influence them to resist too.
If it's just you it can look like you are not supporting your workplace, which may lead to you not being particularly trusted when it comes to promotions
