It's not suitable is it...have never watched myself only heard about it.

OP posts:
Junosmum · 02/11/2015 21:48

To be fair it certainly doesn't glorify drug taking/ production or dealing!

SecretSquirr3ls · 02/11/2015 21:49

Not at all. There is a nasty rape scene in series one, and lots of other gratuitous violence.
I'd say 16 minimum.

Lottapianos · 02/11/2015 21:50

YANBU. Definitely not suitable for a 13 year old

Mistigri · 02/11/2015 21:50

I suppose it depends whether you've discussed the issues with him before (drugs ...) and how mature he is. I think it has a much more nuanced and interesting moral message than a lot of series that attract teenagers.

My daughter asked me at 12 whether I'd let her watch Game of Thrones or Breaking Bad, I said "no" to GoT and a qualified yes to Breaking Bad (that I would prefer her to wait but it wasn't an outright no).

In the end she watched GoT behind my back. I don't think she has watched Breaking Bad bad yet (she's 14 so a little older than your son) but I wouldn't have an issue with it now, she would be fine with it.

TimeToMuskUp · 02/11/2015 21:50

Nope, I've recently watched the whole series and wouldn't think it ok for a 13 year old at all.

Hassled · 02/11/2015 21:51

It wasn't suitable for me and I'm pushing 50.

Mistigri · 02/11/2015 21:53

I'd add that I probably wouldn't let my not-very-mature nearly 13 year old son to watch it ... But he wouldn't be interested anyway.

TaliZorah · 02/11/2015 21:57

It depends on the maturity level of the kids. I don't think I'd have a problem with it but I can see why you would

Gatehouse77 · 02/11/2015 22:06

We've said no to our 16 year old...because some of them are rated 18.

CassieBearRawr · 02/11/2015 22:18

YANBU. I don't think any 13 year olds are 'mature' enough to watch it but that's just me.

rageagainsttheBIL · 02/11/2015 22:21

YANBU. Drugs aside, it's pretty dark, deals with some very adult themes, and gets under your skin.

IHaveBrilloHair · 02/11/2015 22:22

Dd loves it, she's 14.
Entirely up to you.
She so far has no interest in drugs btw, or alcohol!

Dogsmom · 02/11/2015 22:24

Depends if you want to bore him to death, it's the most overrated series I've ever watched.

ElsaAintAsColdAsMe · 02/11/2015 22:26

My 14yo ds loved it, and it sparked some pretty interesting discussions too.

It wouldn't be suitable for a more sensitive teenager.

Bettercallsaul1 · 02/11/2015 22:28

Too much (sometimes quite horrific) violence for a thirteen-year-old, I would say, OP. Also graphic sex. I would definitely wait a few more years.

The acid bath was too much for my daughter at twenty-two!

Fantastic series for adults, though!

eleven59 · 02/11/2015 22:45

No way would I let a 13yo watch it.

notquiteruralbliss · 02/11/2015 22:57

Depends on you, your DCs and how your household runs. I don't ever censor what my DCs watch so it wouldn't really be an issue in our house.

BreakfastAtStephanies · 02/11/2015 23:05

YANBU. I thoroughly enjoyed BB, but some of it is horrific. I'd have thought 15 was min age but perhaps you should watch it first ? The episode called BoxCutter was right on the edge for me. Also Jesse's girlfriend's death. The stuff of nightmares but sooo well done.

CarrieLouise25 · 02/11/2015 23:09

Personally I'd say 13 is too young, but I cannot wait for my DS to be old enough to watch it (I'd say 16+) - I think it would be enough to put you off drugs for life!!! Better than any 'just say no' campaign any day Grin

wickedlazy · 02/11/2015 23:17

I reckon watch the first episode yourself, and decide from there? Only you know if he's mature enough/wouldn't be disturbed by it. Maybe better to watch it with him/discuss the issues while watching, than him going behind your back and watching it in a mates/on their smartphone or tablet. Also depends if you think he is actually interested enough to do that.

limitedperiodonly · 02/11/2015 23:27

Depends how mature he is. I'd have been allowed to watch it at 13. It doesn't glorify drugs at all but it does glorify a bitter, dying middle-aged man who comes alive through drug dealing. He's not always very nice but he has his moments.

That aspect will probably go over your son's head and he'll get bored in the first season.
