Stage 1/2 endometriosis

Posted in chat before but didn't get any replies so thought I'd post here.

Just wondering if it's easy or difficult to conceive with stage 1 or 2 endo?

Absolutely everyone is different. I had endo but conceived. However I also miscarried my second child.

Make of that what you will! Sorry to be so unhelpful!

winkywinkybumbum · 02/11/2015 18:59

Oh and I did get pregnant a third time but due to (my own) medical reasons I had to terminate.

FlowersAndShit · 02/11/2015 19:41

Thank you winky

Flowers I wish you luck.

My sympathies OP. For what it's worth, I've had endometriosis for 20 years now along with another hormonal disorder and after a combination of taking the pill back to back (i.e. no bleeds) and surgery I managed to concieve naturally.

I'd strongly recommend you contact the brilliant Endometriosis Society, who have knowledgeable people on the helpline who can give you the latest guidance: www.endometriosis-uk.org/.

I'd also recommend insisting on early specialist help. Check your specialist actually has experience in treating women with endo. Early intervention can make all the difference.

Stage 3 endo here and I conceived naturally.

It was a total surprise as we'd been told it wasn't going to happen (been trying for 2 years and slack with the contraceptive for 5 years before that) and we were on the IVF list.

It is possible but give yourself the best chance: get the adhesions dealt with and don't expect it to happen quickly.

Go to your GP and advise of your TTC start date. This means there is a record for if you go back and ask for IVF referral.
Good luck!

If you're on Facebook I'd suggest joining the Endometropolis group. I've learned so much on there.

Wishing you all the best.

Thank you all. Would I have to pay privately to see a specialist?

I'm 47 ; 4 years ago I had a Total hysterectomy and my surgeon said it was technically one of the most difficult hysterectomies he'd worked on due to the mess created by endo.

He was surprised I'd managed to have had 3 children.

Anything is possible, stay strong.

Not sure what stage mine is, I was told I "very likely" have endometriosis due to symptoms but as it got better on the mirena they wouldn't do a laparoscopy unless I had trouble getting pregnant.

I got pregnant while on Cerazette. It's different for everyone

Impostersyndrome · 02/11/2015 21:37

No you absolutely shouldn't have to pay privately to see a specialist. Endometriosis is an illness that needs treating, whether or not you're trying to conceive.

Onsera3 · 02/11/2015 21:42

I have stage three and didn't conceive naturally quickly enough the first time do had IVF.

Second time had a surprise natural pregnancy!

TaliZorah · 02/11/2015 21:49

imposter I thought it was pretty sexist. "We won't treat women for pain or reduced quality of life, loss of earnings, social disruption, and emotional turmoil until it interferes with her only purpose: having kids!"

worriedmum100 · 02/11/2015 22:03

I had stage 3 and had difficulty conceiving my second child and also had several miscarriages. Mine went undiagnosed for ages because I didn't have the "usual" symptoms.

I had a little mid cycle bleeding and terrible nausea, like pregnancy nausea (a particularly cruel symptom when you're trying to conceive) and looking back on it felt generally ill nearly all the time but no medical.professional either in the nhs or a private fertility clinic picked up on it. It only got diagnosed when I went for a specialist scan in relation to something else and the consultant noticed that my ovary was stuck down.

I had a laporoscopy and removal privately as I needed it dealt with quickly as time was running out to conceive due to my age. I appreciate I was very lucky to be able to afford this. I conceived the very next month but sadly had a MMC. 6 months later I conceived DS2 who is now 6 weeks old.

I hope you find the treatment you need. x

Flowers - I am 47 and had surgery back in March to remove my ovaries and an ovarian cyst - or so they thought!

When they opened me up they found I had a Frozen pelvis which is the most advanced form of Endometriosis. Everything was stuck to everything in there! It took 2 surgeons three hours to unstick and remove everything.

Again, like Stillstayingclassy, the surgeons were both surprised that I had managed to have 2 children.

I had my ovaries removed otherwise the endo can just keep reproducing and I had finished with them anyway!!

Good luck and think positive.
