AIBU to think if you buy paint tester pots that they should at least bare some resemblance to the colour on the front of the pot.!!!

YANBU, however, that's why you have tester pots, to save yourself an expensive mistake later on!

LittlePie14 · 02/11/2015 14:37

Ha! I had this. Homebase Fresh Linen.

Completely different colour on the wall to what's on front of the tin, what it looks like IN the tin and, would you believe it....different colour to what it was on the scrap of lining paper I tested it on.

Luckily I like all the variations!

Donge13 · 02/11/2015 14:40

Soft stone is bloody lilac!!! It's supposed to be off cream!!

My kitchen is painted 'dove grey'. The dove was obviously bathed in blueberry yoghurt...

MackerelOfFact · 02/11/2015 14:53

I think it depends on the lighting and the surroundings as much as anything. All four walls of my room are the same colour but they all look different.

It's difficult to get a true match between the colour printed on the tin and the colour inside the tin, as there will be subtle variations between different batches of paint and different batches of stickers/samples.

BathshebaDarkstone · 02/11/2015 14:54

YANBU. FFS!

TeenAndTween · 02/11/2015 14:59

Best tip we had was paint large pieces of lining paper at least 15inches square and put them up in different places around the room to see what they look like in different lights.

SlightF0x · 02/11/2015 15:06

While we're here, I'll just warn you all that ''shale white'' is not off-white. It's pale blue

MadeMan · 02/11/2015 15:07

Those paint tester pots are too small; I had to buy about 100 of them to decorate my living room.

Ripeningapples · 02/11/2015 15:18

That's why they are called tester pots. Usually takes me about 15 of the little bastards to find the colour I like. Sometimes I'm luckier if I chose ones I don't really like or that I think will be off beam. Confused

Whycantibetangy · 02/11/2015 15:42

YANBU mellow mocha = grey purple. I was expecting a kind of milky coffee colour

LittlePie14 · 02/11/2015 16:08

Whycant

Yes. That was the last living room colour. I agree it's not what one was expecting.

All my walls look the same. It just doesn't look the same at any point during the prep processes. FFS

feebeecat · 02/11/2015 16:18

It's all about the lighting. When I was looking for paint for back room I painted tester onto big piece of paper in kitchen & loved it. Took it through to back room and taped it to wall and it was bloody horrible!

Oddly, I was looking for something to cover up the soft stone wall - it's not lilac here, it looks more like fresh plaster. It went into a freshly plastered wall and decided that was a complete waste of our time Hmm

Donge13 · 02/11/2015 16:23

Back to b&q I think . Might just buy a load of random colours as it seem very much a case of pot luck!

You made a funny!

LittlePie14 · 02/11/2015 16:37

OP, I painted my bedroom soft stone - was def on the purple side!!

Natural Hessian or Egyptian Cotton (dulux) are good!

ForChina · 02/11/2015 16:48

YABU to post this thread topic title to make me click on it, thinking we were in for some kind of Jeremy Kyle-style DNA-test showdown.

Paint... meh.

Our Soft Stone is pale plum! Hmm

MadeMan · 02/11/2015 21:01

"I'll just warn you all that ''shale white'' is not off-white."

The "whale shite" paint colour is spot on though, so you could try that one on your walls.
