To think nowadays, working from home should be allowed as much as possible

I do a job that could just as easily be done at home most days as in the office. My senior colleague feels exactly the same as I do. Our job involves working on our own most of the time, has absolute deadlines, has a very definite outcome that can't be fudged in any way, and can be done best in peace and quiet.
Yet our boss, who actually has very little to do with our work but is just someone we officially report to, is very unwilling to allow working from home.
I know other people who are in a similar boat.

Surely, nowadays, with remote access, smartphones, email etc. working from home should be the norm in a lot of jobs, not an exception or a favour. It would cut down on rush hour traffic, allow for a better work/life balance and also bring a bit of life back into a lot of communities which are like ghost towns during the day.

AIBU to feel like this?

I wish my company would allow more people to WFH. They don't even approve job shares or part time. A lot of my job couldn't be done from home but at least one day a week could - this week I could have done 3 days from home. Instead I did a shitty commute and spent quite a lot f time getting very distracted by people asking me random things - my desk is right next to the main path through the office. It's a very sociable desk. Even if I don't really want it to be and I'm busy. I'm also very near the printer and have to endure endless questions about the damn printer. I honestly would get so much more done at home, I'd be less tired and I'd have a much better work life balance. But the two people in charge don't have kids and really don't care that so many of us who work there would like some flexibility. And we are all very professional and disciplined people. I've WFH before - i wish it could happen again.
