I'm eating the sweets the trick or treaters didn't take. Trouble is I'm a newly diagnosed T2 diabetic! I haven't eaten sweets for a while.

Please say something to make me stop!

Needles in your eyes to release pressure. Picnic in the park man.

It takes a while after diagnosis to get used to all the planning involved. Since you know what happened at Halloween, you need to plan ahead for Christmas! What non-sugar treats will you buy in advance to help you resist all the chocolate, christmas pudding, mince pies etc?

You probably crave carbs (many people with diabetes do), and it's really really hard to resist. Some people with T2 diabetes do very well on a diet that's lower in carbs (avoid bread, pasta, rice and potatoes as well as sugar), and that helps with the cravings - they disappear after a week or so if you stick to a low carb diet.

I haven't met very many people with diabetes who are actually motivated to change their diet by the fear of blindness or amputations, even though you'd think they would be. However, lots of people feel quite motivated by knowing they feel better when they don't eat sweets, especially if they have something nice as a substitute.

Next year could you give out non sweet items such as Halloween pencils or bouncy balls?

Runningoutofnamesagain could you try doing the "switch witch" with your dd's candy? She could get a small toy in exchange for the candy.. The switch witch swaps them!

OP type 2 is not only about sweets but also about fatty stuff (pizzas etc) so I hope you exercise some control there as well! Are you seeing a dietician ?
Type 2 sucks, I feel for you, most of my family have it so I know it's hard, changes your life forever Flowers

Good idea westcoast I'll try that. Did is very good in that she will choose one treat (usually chocolate based as it works out so much better and she prefers it!) and will put the rest away. Quite often a lot of things mysteriously disappear (and luckily she doesn't notice!) and the rest we eek out over the next few months as they get so much

Really avoid anything like haribo etc but she sees those as 'medicine' anyway as if she has a very bad hypo and refuses glucotabs we can usually tempt her with a mini bag of haribo
Really like the switch witch idea though thanks
