to not answer door to any more trick or treaters?

First knock on the door tonight and there were 22, yes 22, children with a group of adults. Who does this? Are there coach loads of people trick and treating these days? Surely you split up into little groups. I'd stocked up on loads of sweets (two tubs of Celebrations, multibags of Haribos and three bags of toffees) but cannot believe it that they took handfuls each and cleaned us out completely. May as well have just given them the bowl too. Not one word of thanks from the kids or parents. Fuckers.

Shelby, there's usually a lull about now and then the teen t&ters appear. Just put a note on the door if you've had enough.

DH is answering the door in a Jedi robe and carrying a scythe.

We like the shrieks Halloween Grin

Callers started later this year (RWC final, I suppose)

DC are coming round in little packs, and being happy and friendly and all have shouted thanks. 22 together is taking the piss though.

dementedpixie · 31/10/2015 18:44

I have given out the 60 bags I made so we are down to individual bags of haribo now

rookiemere · 31/10/2015 18:44

We've only had two lots so far. One set were Burke and Hare - you get very imaginative trick or treaters in Scotland.

I do hope it wasn't DS's cub camp at your door OP. They arranged it for Halloween weekend and there is a number of slightly disappointed boys so they were trying to work in some trick or treating. I don't think they'd be daft enough to do it en masse now.

gamerchick · 31/10/2015 18:45

Yeah the teens wanting money and like to egg your windows Angry

TerryTylerlikesaTiger · 31/10/2015 18:45

Our local fb group has people asking the best roads to go on in a particular area. Considering there are 9000 on that group, who knows how many will turn up at suggested streets! I'm so grateful they will be leaving us alone though.

Perfectlypurple · 31/10/2015 18:46

I put a poster on my door saying no trick or treat. I am nights tonight and really didn't want to be woken up by kids while I was trying to sleep before work. Although I have been awake since this afternoon and couldn't get back to sleep as can hear them all excitedly knocking on neighbours doors. Never mind, it's only once a year and just have to hope I don't get too tired at work.

hefzi · 31/10/2015 18:47

No-one's knocked yet - and the neighbourhood I live in, I won't answer the door after about 7 anyway... Except last year, I was cleaned out on the first knock by a rather large gang of kids who were into the handfuls thing, so I have bloody loads of kiddie crack in: if the little dears don't come soon, I'll end up eating it - I'd put them out on the step in a bowl, except the fuckers round here would pinch the bowl as well.

dementedpixie · 31/10/2015 18:49

Have never heard of people egging windows here. In scotland though so the 'trick ' is a poem, joke or song so you get a treat.

StarkyTheDirewolf · 31/10/2015 18:49

Im not answering the door. There's an absconded rapist on the loose and it wasn't so long ago a man knocked on (having threatened a taxi driver with a knife directly outside my house) and demanded money to get home. Luckily DH was home and answered the door but he ran off before he could be stopped.

Lweji · 31/10/2015 18:49

I'd rather have 20 in one go and be able to sit peacefully watching tv the rest of the time.

calzone · 31/10/2015 18:51

We are hiding in the living room with the lights off.

Hate Halloween.

TwatByName · 31/10/2015 18:51

Op Next year , you could have a separate bowl with some loose jelly type sweets in (empty a few bags of Harry bow in), then if you open the door to a massive bunch of crabby gets, you hold out that bowl, if the first few empty the bowl say oh well all gone, then let them fight it out between themselves and giving the mums a head ache.

Sirzy · 31/10/2015 18:51

I would have told that many to go away I think!

We have a sign on the door asking for no trick or treaters - still people have knocked!

YouTheCat · 31/10/2015 18:52

I've had no trick or treaters at all yet.

I have lollies, chews and mini fudge bars. I'm not answering the door once Dr Who starts.

ElleAndAitch · 31/10/2015 18:52

I just had The Ferals from behind me on the estate where I live (and whose mother I had earlier lambasted for letting her little shits laser-pen my living room all afternoon) who stood and apologised to me on my doorstep for 'bein' noisy bastards and always bein' dead cheekeh to yer 'usband.'

I melted and gave them a hugely inappropriate amount of sweets and a few quid Grin

yorkshapudding · 31/10/2015 18:53

There are loads of kids round here so I stocked up on treats thinking we'd be inundated. No sign so far! Halloween Confused
Now I'm worried they'll all turn up banging on the door and ringing the bell as soon as we've put DD(2) to bed.

gamerchick · 31/10/2015 18:53

Egging is a common pastime for the fuckers here and tonight it ramps up a smite.it does make you jump.

KinkyDorito · 31/10/2015 18:53

I could do with some. Pumpkin on step, pumpkin in window, massive bowl of sweets and not one trick or treater. Live on a main road too. Probably because the firework display is on now.

Sigh. I am low-carbing and the bastard swizzel-matlows are calling to me from the kitchen work top.

Parma violets. Refresher chews. Drumstick lollies. Sad

tibbawyrots · 31/10/2015 18:54

We've had next door's little werewolf Grin knocking and then we turned out the lights at the front of the house. No decorations up as we only get older teens demanding money with menaces so were pretending to be out ( in back with wine and reading - bliss!) Grin

miaowroar · 31/10/2015 18:55

One group with 22 kids is just taking the piss. Do they think complete strangers are made of money in order to give their kids sweets? I think I would have had to have said something myself. "Don't you think this is rather a large group to bring to one house? I hardly have any treats left now for the rest of the night."

I am going to draw my curtains now - I have no decorations up so hope they won't even knock. I won't answer anyway as am on my own.

I was going to put one of those posters up you could download from the police, but my son said it looked as though you were paedophiles who weren't allowed to have trick or treaters call. Halloween Blush

AcrossthePond55 · 31/10/2015 18:56

I'm in the US. It's becoming increasingly common that parents drive their kids to the 'good neighbourhoods', i.e. in a 'safer' part of town or the ones with the good candy. Trust me, the kids know exactly where the 'good candy' neighbourhoods are! Plus where we live, 'country' parents bring their kids to the town neighbourhoods to T&T because it's not practical to T&T when the homes are acres apart and few & far between. The country kids aren't a problem because there just aren't that many of them.

So, 22 kids in a pop? Welcome to our world! The parents are probably bringing them there in carloads.

tibbawyrots · 31/10/2015 18:56

We're not were! Smile

Tapirbackrider · 31/10/2015 18:56

I just answered the door to a bunch of teens who had made no effort towards a costume or any tricks. When I said we only had sweets to give out, one less delightful young man told me to fuck off - they only wanted money!

They were sent away with a few well chosen words, but I'm still gobsmacked.

AcrossthePond55 · 31/10/2015 18:56

PS, never just offer the bowl, that's asking for it! You grab a handful and plop a few in each bag.
