To think someone should ask if I want anything?

I'm the only person in a coffee shop (not a chain), except DD who fell asleep on my knee. Over an hour ago I ordered tea and cake which came fairly promptly (order taken at table). I quite fancy a sandwich now for lunch but none of the three members of staff have come anywhere near me in the last hour... Maybe I could phone them and order for delivery to the front of the cafe? Grin

They won't, because for the majority of people, it'd be unwanted attention. It'd feel like they were pressuring you to either buy something else or leave.

If you want to order something else, you'll need to either speak or try and make eye contact with them, and then they should come over.

Otherwise, most chains let you sit for four hours per drink, so if the shop you are in has adopted a similar rule, you'll get asked if you're okay at about 3pm.

It's long and narrow and I'm on the cosy armchair by the front windows, they're chatting amongst themselves behind the counter, eye contact not possible...

Yes, give them a wave and beckon them over. They probably don't want to disturb you Smile

They might be MNing, I just got my lunch order taken :)

What are you having for lunch?

TheOriginalWinkly · 30/10/2015 12:17

Cheese and ham toastie and a latte. It's convenience food all weekend because we're between homes. The packers are packing up the flat as I sit here.

Tbh I much prefer being left alone than asked if I wanted anything more. If I do, I'll ask for it myself. Otherwise it comes across badly imo, as if you're being pestered to keep buying things. Good on them.

Clearly she took my order to see if she could free a table before the lunchtime rush. It's gone from empty to rammed in 15 minutes!

The armchair is one of the most comfortable chairs I've ever sat on in my life

Especially as it's not busy.

That they were leaving you alone i mean. No rush to get you to spend more or move.
