To think this isn't acceptable?

DH's company have placed him and a few others onto part time hours to try and prevent redundancies. He's just completed his first month of part time.

Today is payday and yesterday his boss told him that she "hadn't caught payroll in time" and that his payslip would reflect his old full time hours, but his salary wouldn't and not to worry, next month's payslip would balance the difference out although, again, his pay would reflect what he'd actually worked.

Still with me? This morning, his pay in the bank looks about £200 lighter than we were expecting, even with the reduced hours. Of course, he can't check it because his payslip is wrong, and will be wrong next month as well.

AIBU to think this is fucking ridiculous?

YANBU - how have they worked out his salary if they haven't managed to create a correct payslip?

MrPorky · 30/10/2015 07:35

Payslip should match the pay and any adjustment should show on both next month.

They need to either correct pay or issue a new payslip, or you'll never know where you are and neither will the tax man

DH runs his own business. He says payslips must reflect actual pay. You need them as proof of earnings / deductions / tax paid etc. He says ring HMRC for guidance (but this will drop your DH's boss in it so tricky). There are exceptions-some jobs don't require a payslip (merchant seaman is one, apparently police is another; but by far the majority do).

Have a look on here, it's very accurate. Will at least give you some idea as to what he should be coming out with.

Phone ACAS for advice. How dare they!

Thinkig about it, they'll have had to pay the tax Nan in accordance with his payslip won't they? So he's been hit with full time tax on part time pay?

I check the pay as part of my role. Payslips are produced prior to the salaries being paid over, we've just changed payroll supplier plus other large changes so there is a lot happening. I check the amounts agree with what I'm expecting. If there is a large difference e.g. Employee left during the month but missed notification deadlines we can pull the salary. On the other side if someone isn't being paid enough e.g. Change of hours hasn't been put through we can request an advance of pay (although it isn't' really) and an additional sum is paid. I let the employee know and on the next months payslip it will show the total amount paid including any adjustments less the tax and SA and then show the advance. I expect it will work the other way round for you so next months payslip should show the correct value.

However this shouldn't stop your husband calling up HR / payroll and asking them to explain how his salary has been calculated and that it seems to be light. I doubt that he has paid his 'full time' tax on part time pay but worth asking them to explain it. It is really shit that they have reduced hours and then fucked up the payments. Paying employees is the most important thing and they should be putting in extra effort to sort this out.

The manager must have 'caught the pyroll' in good time to reduce his hours! So why is the payslip incorrect?

32ndfloorandabitdizzy · 31/10/2015 01:11

if he is made redundant any payout will now be on his reduced salary- was he aware of that?
