To think there is nothing nicer than new bedding?

Am ridiculously excited about going to bed tonight.

We got a new bed about 5 months ago. I was really looking forward to going shopping for new bedding before it arrived. But a couple of days before it came dp had a heart attack so I never got around to it.

We have made a real effort since to cut down on unnecessary spending so I never got around to it. We finally had a long outstanding invoice settled in friday (dp is a builder and we sometimes struggle to get stuff paid) which boosted our finances.

So today I went linen shopping. I bought a new quilt, cover and pillows, new mattress protector and new 800 count cotton sheets with a sateen finish.

I am having a gin, my tea and a nice bath. I will even shave my legs.

And then I am going to bed early to fully benefit from the whole experience!

Life in the fast lane here!

You've inspired me to buy some new bedding!

cruikshank · 27/10/2015 21:25

bimandbam, this is all verrrry interesting information. I have gone through other sets of bedding in the 15 years since I bought the HoF stuff and will always chuck when it's looking tired, but this has really lasted. It's an investment and therefore a bargain which is practically like not spending money at all, really.

See, you didn't even need to enable!

Kayakinggirl86 · 27/10/2015 21:25

I have 3 sheets that where my great grand parents. My grandfather was a tax collector in Lancashire in the late 19th/ early 20th century. And got these sheets as a "gift" from a mill (so over 100 years old). Not to sure what the thread count is all I know is they are the best sheets ever. Not bobbled or showing any wear.
Love love love them freshly washed and starched. Wow it is bliss.

PiratesLifeForMe · 27/10/2015 21:26

Oh I love. Sheridan - I splashed out on a brown suedey-feel set when I got my first bonus from my first decent job.....10 years ago.

That set is still going strong, no bobbling, no wear & tear. It was insanely expensive when I think off it in light of my now bonus-free regular paid job but I'm so damn glad I treated myself then. I just couldn't justify it now but I love fresh bedding night that little bit more when it's the Sheridan set SmileSmile

bimandbam · 27/10/2015 21:40

Pirates I bet that is the same set as mine! Is it chocaltey brown in little squares on top and plain cotton underneath?

Cruikshank it's not actually spending anything at all really. We all do better at work and in life with a good nights sleep so really if you think about it nice bedding is like a work tool and therefore essential.

I can confirm my bed is lush. I even exfoliated a bit in the bath to fully get the benefit. Didn't have the cheesecake though as I was still full from tea. But it will save until tomorrow. Maybe.

Ooooooooh YANBU. YAsoNBU. The Yanbu-iest YANBU ever. Halloween Envy

bessiebumptious2 · 27/10/2015 22:55

I've just been online and bought a Sheridan set that I've had my eye on for ages - can't wait for it. Some people do handbags and shoes - I do bedding! DP generally steers me away from the linens if we're ever near any Grin

FithColumnist · 27/10/2015 23:03

YAB totally U to boast about this. Recently got the duvet dry-cleaned: it was literally like a new duvet. Fluffy and warm and amazing. Going to bed that night was far better than the wedding night, for sheer sensuality.

DH2R · 27/10/2015 23:06

Read 'The Long Dark Teatime of the Soul' by Douglas Adams.

It did the same to me for fresh linen as Rapunzel did to me for lettuce.

YANBU

GrimDamnFanjo · 27/10/2015 23:54

Don't ever sleep in pure linen. I bought some when we had some cash after selling a house. I am ruined forever.

Senpai · 28/10/2015 01:33

I throw mine in the Tumbler to get rid of wrinkles. The feeling of freshly cleaned sheets is just divine.

bimandbam · 28/10/2015 06:27

It was sheer bliss! The quilt is fluffy and even unlike my lumpy old one. The sheets crisp and cool and the cover and slips snuggly and smooth.

Definitely didn't dtd. Dp normally sleeps naked but had been ordered to wear pants so as not to put sweaty arse in my new bedding. And there was no way he was getting them off.

Just wish ds had stayed in bed a bit longer than 5.35 so I could have appreciated it a bit longer.

Glad iwnbu and knew you nest of vipers would appreciate the naice linens. No one irl quite gets it. Though my mam who gets my hand me.downs mentioned the other day she prefers the sets I have passed on to the new set she bought from Tesco. Halloween Grin

Fresh bedding is the best thing ever. YANBU.

Lambbone · 28/10/2015 13:50

I agree with every word. New bedding is gorgeous!

But I'll tell you what else is lovely? New socks.

Mmmmm socks! All lovely and soft.

Beautifullymixed · 28/10/2015 14:07

This thread has had me howling Grin
OP you are hilarious and my twin!
I would be in all kinds of Heaven/bliss/Nirvana with this. I would stretch and move my legs around constantly, just to feel the smooth sheets (against my freshly shaved legs). I would moisturise with beautiful smelling cream, and waft the quilt around, marvelling at the fluffyness.......
The anticipation would be bliss.

Nothing would stain my sheets at all. No man sweat or bare boys bottoms allowed.

I'm utterly jealous Envy

Fannycraddock79 · 28/10/2015 14:17

Matilda are you me? Did I write this? Would be my one totally extravagance if I won.

bimandbam · 28/10/2015 15:56

Lol beautifullymixed I even dusted the toast crumbs of ds this morning when he wanted to get on the bed while I got dressed.

I hate dp getting into bed before me on clean bedding day. Especially as the fucker prefers to watch tv from my side and rearranges my pillows to suit him.

I am actually looking forward to dd eventually leaving home so I will have a spare bed. I will buy lovely linen for it and make it all nice and when I am fed up of dps sweaty arse and snoreyness and flailing about and breathing I will take myself off to my own private little peace of heaven.

She is only 11 though so might be a while away. Am thinking she has to go to university so it's guaranteed 7 years away. At least I will get term time in a bloke free bed!

I do love dp very much though. Just not in my lovely bed!

OP posts:
thecapitalsunited · 28/10/2015 16:57

I won't let DH in bed before me on clean sheet day. He puts up with it because he knows the clean sheet feeling on my skin makes me more susceptible to his advances.

Beautifullymixed · 28/10/2015 17:58

This thread Grin
I am single now and have admitted to myself that I've never enjoyed sharing a bed. With anyone.
I treated myself to a beautiful Indian wood bed, goose down bedding , with a sumptuous faux fur throw on top. I have my pillows and decorative cushions arranged just so
To top it off, I only sleep on one side.
On the ahem, occasions that I have had a 'visitor' I have had moments where I wondered if the sofa would do......

Ds9 and DS11 are not encouraged in with me very often. Too sticky, full of crumbs or boy sweat.
My bed is my haven. I could quite easily stay in there permanently.
I have 5dc and this has been a long time coming, but my God it's wonderful.
No snoring, flailing, sweaty arse cracks, cheesy feet or morning breath my own doesn't count

Grin

OP your time will come, let the anticipation keep you sweet until then.

YouWakeUpFlawless · 28/10/2015 22:46

yadnbu.... Every Wednesday I do a full house clean which includes washing the bedding.... I hate the thought of cleaning on a Wednesday afternoon but once DD is in bed & DP goes out to football I love having a long soak, everywhere clean and getting in a clean bed with fresh bedding ahhhhhh bliss

OhSoggyBiscuit · 29/10/2015 19:43

Getting into a bed freshly made with brand new bedding after a long hot shower and new PJs is the ultimate bedtime.
