To ask work for a better chair and trackerball

I'm a few months into a new job. I dont want to be demanding. But the seat is very uncomfortable, you can only move it up or down and the back rest down. I'm used to having a shair where you can slide it forward, adjust the armrest and has Lombard support. Also I much prefer a trakcerball.

Work have said there isnt the budget for this and no one else has complained.

Aibu to think they should provide these?

No, ive always found employers do a lot to help you if you complain about RSI. But this is a small company.

Well in that case I don't think you can expect them to accommodate your request.

Surely if I'm having complaints with NY health and workstation they should address it before it becomes a medical issue?

Ask for a risk assessment then. You can't expect them to accommodate you just because you've asked.

Have you completed a display screen assessment?

If the position you have to work in is causing you discomfort then work should be looking at making sure you can sit without causing injury to yourself.

However that would not automatically mean new stuff.

Ask for a proper assessment, abide by the results of that. I am really short and a proper Dsa (you can find them online) showed up tha fact that I physically couldn't adjust my chair into the correct position. I eventually got a new chair. In the meantime can you pad it out with cushions ?

I think I'd just buy a trackball though. I do have a documented rsi in my wrist, but even then I cba to make sufficient fuss to get one. I did insist on a really decent ergonomic mouse.

And yes they should address it, if they have any sense. BUT so many companies don't have any sense when it comes to it.

Gently and persistent. But very very firm tends to work in my experience. Just be prepared for it to take a while.
