To not expect trick or treaters on 22nd Oct?

About half 8 last night a couple of kids (looked about 10ish) knocked. I was trying to get dd in bed so told them we didn't have any sweets this far away from Halloween and that I was just putting the baby to sleep. They just said "oh" and walked off.

Halloween is well over a week away ffs! I'd expect them on halloween night and over the weekend closest but not this early.

They're just chancers.

Kids have done it for as long as I can remember.

Ignore.

YANBU, they're being cheeky. I've only seen trick or treaters on Halloween but would also understand the weekend closest. A week away is taking the mickey.

We've had 'Penny for the Guy' outside our local shop for 2 weeks now. They are getting so early they'll be getting the guy out at Easter at this rate.

We've just had more! Don't know if they were the same kids as dh got the door while I bathed dd. Would it be unreasonable to put a note on the door saying not to come until actual Halloween? Dh is on nights all week and trying to wrestle dd to bed while I'm 37 weeks pg is fun enough as it is without stopping halfway through to tell trick or treaters to sod off.

YANBU- I don't understand showing up before Halloween? Halloween and trick or treating is huge in the states where I'm from. Everyone knows the rules though. No knocking on houses that aren't decorated or who's porch lights are not on. You only trick or treat on the 31st end of.

I've not had many trick or treaters since I've moved here. Maybe a handful over the last 5 years. I've been ready with bags of candy but no takers. Been horrible for my waistline.

They're confused.

Halloween stuff has been out for ages and when I went to Tesco yesterday it was crammed with Christmas jumpers.

Time is fluid. Whatever goes goes.

Don't feel bad, I shoo kids away until 6:30pm on Halloween night, and tell them to inform the others. It's amazing what an accurate sense of time they really have, because I always get a large swarm 6:30pm on the dot. Get them all in one large batch and have a quiet night with only a few stragglers trickling in later. Grin

If you happen to be on the streets of central London at 6pm this week you'll see a very dedicated family of trick or treaters harassing the rich and tourists into trick or treats, the parents clutching a bottle of wkd and nudging the kids to ask people.

Just when you thought there were no small family businesses left in Knightsbridge......

peppersaunt · 23/10/2015 20:51

Ooh is that by Harrods? May have to check it out...

No YANBU.

We had that one year OP nearly a week before Halloween last year after it had happened twice I stuck a note on the door,I wrote on there please don't knock for trick or treating till Halloween the 31st October as I won't have any sweets in to give out till then. Wink a complete fib as we have 5DC and we always have sweets in the house for them and they're friends and my great nephews and nieces for when they come round.

It worked,so well worth a try.

We love Halloween and were happy to give sweets out on Halloween, last year we had over 100 trick or treaters I think, just about managed to not run out.

Fauchelevent · 24/10/2015 20:04

peppers yup, they circle the store at around 6pm. Never quite seen trick or treating done that way!
