Don't Tell The Bride irritation

Lighthearted thread but still gets right up my nose. Why is it that these brides on this show seem to hate everything the groom chooses, cry, threaten to not go through with it but then tell him it was the best day of her life. Sometimes the groom spends half the money on a stag night, hardly anything on a hen night or organises a really bad one. Am I turning into a miserable old cow? AIBU to want, just once or twice, it to end in the bride jilting the groom?

Say yes to the dress Atlanta is my favourite the other day the bride wanted a red neck wedding Monte nearly got an attack of the vapours

Janeymoo50 · 22/10/2015 16:47

I can't believe that they don't speak about it alone in the lead up to filming (I would!). Mainly "don't even think about getting black for the bridesmaids or a low cut dress for me" etc. I too used to love Four Weddings - I remember the couple with the piercings who got married in Lapland with just the three other brides for guests.

captainfarrell · 22/10/2015 16:48

Oh I remember that janey didn't they swap blood or something disgusting?

That is why they do the pre record thing so they know that the bride wants fancy pants hall with mature gardens then steer the groom to the sheep shed in snowdonia

squoosh · 22/10/2015 16:50

Someone on MN was on DTTB. She said you aren't allowed deviate from your application, so if you say 'I'm a crazy guy who will do whatever it takes.....' they'll make sure you live up to your 'crazy guy' claim.

raviolidreaming · 22/10/2015 16:51

What squoosh says supports what I've heard. Apparently, the producers give the groom three choices of dress and three choices of hen do - it's all very contrived to create friction.

angelos02 · 22/10/2015 16:51

It is wonderful trash tv. Also love to question the commitment of the women that talk about backing out of a marriage because of something as trivial as the dress they've been picked. I think that just shows the immaturity of some of the brides.

MrsJayy · 22/10/2015 16:51

Oh yeah i remember the other brides sitting in the bar afterwards as they had their tongue down each others throat

captainfarrell · 22/10/2015 16:53

Oh I am so gullible!!

That's the one, it was awful - and the bride in question only livened up when they played heavy rock music and she could do some head banging. Yes, they swapped little vials of blood instead of rings - nice.

chelle792 · 22/10/2015 16:55

I know someone who was on don't tell the bride a week or two ago. She's a happy, upbeat person and all friends and family couldn't believe the amount of crying they put into the programme as the whole thing was generally a lot of fun.

They basically cherry picked the times she did get emotional and edited accordingly

squoosh · 22/10/2015 16:56

It's blatantly obvious sometimes. 'Jenny dreams of getting married in a stately home'...yeah right. Clearly Jenny is a death metal fan who would be much happier somewhere a bit edgier.

squoosh · 22/10/2015 17:00

There was a lovely episode of DTTB in the recent series. A couple were getting married after years of being together. She was lovely, her groom was lovely, her dad was lovely, the best man was a superhero.

They got married in a grotty nightclub but the loveliness of all the people involved made me feel all warm and fuzzy.

carabos · 22/10/2015 17:03

The thing I love about it is the weather - it's always raining which makes the grotty indoor venues even grottier and the outdoor ones worse. I love that half the time they're not even legally married Grin. It's utter trash - brilliant stuff.

carabos · 22/10/2015 17:04

In fact, i'm in bed with the Worst Cold Ever and I'm going to watch one on catch-up Grin.

captainfarrell · 22/10/2015 17:06

The one on a beach was a lovely idea but it was Ireland! Beautiful but not reliable on the weather front for a beach wedding, then the tide came in and it poured with rain! But of course he was a genius in the brides eyes by the end of the night. I swear the groom slips some happy pills in her champers during the toast!

What I find depressing is that the groom is a hero for organising HIS OWN Wedding.
Which Brides to Be do all the time.
Sad

still watch it though Wink

MrsJayy · 22/10/2015 17:14

Oh was the brides dad deaf squoosh?

ShamelessBreadAddict · 22/10/2015 17:15

Yes squoosh, the lovely ones are lovely. Even my DH watches those.

Lottapianos · 22/10/2015 17:17

Oh yes, I saw the Irish beach one! What a total chump. It was pouring down with rain (surprise!) and the tide was coming and in and ruining his stupid yellow carpet and he was still hemming and hawing about whether to move the ceremony indoors. FFS.

squoosh · 22/10/2015 17:18

That's the one MrsJayy!

HaydeeofMonteCristo · 22/10/2015 17:20

I prefer marrying mum and dad! Real thought goes into those weddings and they are really imaginative. And the kids don't spend all the money on themselves like many of the grooms on dttb.

captainfarrell · 22/10/2015 17:21

haydee which channel is that on?

OP posts:
regenerationfez · 22/10/2015 17:29

Marrying mum and dad is CBBC. It's fab, and the weddings are really fun and planned with real love by the kids.

Im irritated by dttb as well. Want a stately home and everything your own way? Pay for your own wedding then!

squoosh · 22/10/2015 17:30

The title 'Marrying Mum and Dad' had me worried for a moment. I was imagining something a bit more........Deliverance.
