AIBU to want to strangle all the noisy b******* in my open plan office?

I DETEST open plan offices. I can't get any work done, can't hear my own phone calls, and the noise of other people on the phone or having "chats" is driving me insane!

So, AIBU to strangle the next person that starts a noisy conversation?

YANBU! I have had many rants on here about my noisy work colleagues in the last year.

I hate open plan and bloody hot desking. We have zones on each floor where you can go and sit if you need to be able to concentrate.

Some people just LOVE to be heard..

Yanbu!

I hate a quiet office, but that said, some things make me want to punch stuff. Loud typing is my current bete noir. It's the people who type incessantly using extra force.

Notgrumpyjustquiet · 20/10/2015 23:16

I sit opposite a bloke who thinks out loud. All. Day. Long. And reads all his emails out. And disagrees vehemently with their content. And tries to draw me and everyone else into pointless slagging of off everybody else's way of doing things even when it's nothing to do with him. And chomps his food. It's all I can do to restrain myself some days.

ARGH! It is STILL going on. I have had to make a request to be moved or else there may be a murder in this office.

Bangs head on desk

YANBU. I work in HR, and worked in open plan offices at my last job. Not great for confidentiality, quite apart from all the noise. If you went to the landings to have sensitive phone calls, you were constantly interrupted by people walking by or ridiculously loud hand dryers blasting out from the loos.

welliesandleaves · 03/11/2015 15:32

YANBU. And as for the people who keep mobiles on their desk that are constantly emitting loud blasts of some execrable music, followed by the person having a loud shouty conversation. Angry

We had 'quiet spaces'... our boss eventually came to ask why we were ALL in there, barring the one truly irritating, out loud thinker, who drove us all mad.

She was bloody loud and sodding persistent though. And yes, she too thought that the tinny scronks of Heart FM or something, emanating from her phone were wholly appropriate, as was her singing along and laughing at how silly she was to have that lyric wrong.

I am sure she was the main reason I went for the promotion that finally killed off my teaching career!

Do you work for the NHS OP? Apparently if there is a fire and someone is uncooperative you can punch them unconscious...Just saying...

I watched a documentary a while back about how bad for people open plan and hot desking is. They did loads of psych studies and said people worked better in quiet privacy with personal effects around them and felt more loyal to the company/less sickness if they were given the chance to decorate their space as their own. It said that open plan/hot desking was actually quite bad for our mental health. But who gives a shit about that eh? Hmm

I always hated working on large open plan floors. I felt like a battery hen. Nowadays, with mobile phones, conference calls, people listening to low volume music etc it must be hell.
