DH maintains shirt creases are fine and everyone at work has them. I maintain he's wrong!

Which one of us is right?

Are you doing your DH's ironing? If do, YABU

But really, if you have to ask about these things, you're non-U

Tummyclutter · 18/10/2015 19:02

I suppose you could always get him non iron shirts.........
Although unfortunately I find I have to still iron them, as they don't come up to my exacting standards.
I wish I wasn't so bloody anal.
I'm not doing a Biscuit either unfortunately!

SmokeAlarmsSaveLives · 18/10/2015 19:03

My ex dh was a police officer and his shirts always had a sharp crease down the sleeve!!!

SilentlyScreamingAgain · 18/10/2015 19:05

Err, yes they are. I've been ironing RAF shirts for 22 years...

I was lied to!

ArkhamOffitt · 18/10/2015 19:10

I'm barred from ironing DH's shirts and trousers because life is too short for me to faff about putting creases in them.

FindoGask · 18/10/2015 19:10

do people still care about U and non-U things these days? How very quaint.

AyeAmarok · 18/10/2015 19:57

Only extremely insecure people, Findo

KingJoffreyLikesJaffaCakes · 18/10/2015 20:00

Bless me. I totally thought 'non-u' was 'non-unreasonable'.

Grin

Shirt sleeves? Who really gives a fuck?

MrPorky · 18/10/2015 20:02

Creases are not only allowed, but essential in any forces uniform I've ever heard of.

kathybump · 18/10/2015 21:37

Never heard non-u and never knew there that there was a debate on shirt sleeve creases! Just wondering now how else I'm out of touch. Hmm

GasLIghtShining · 18/10/2015 22:29

Tummyclutter Are we related?!! I also iron clothes twice although am starting to get less anal about that (not for mine though of course)

emwithme · 18/10/2015 22:31

I was taught to iron shirts growing up by a combo of my (ex-WRAC) mum, my (ex-Army) dad, and three big brothers who all did some military service.

I cannot iron a shirt without creases - even if I'm ironing on a towel on the bed/floor, you'll still get a sleeve crease.

TodmordensDog · 18/10/2015 22:36

DHs work trouser have a 'crease' sewn in. So easy! (Not that I ever iron his shirts or trousers anyway)

waitingforcalpoltowork · 18/10/2015 22:41

i iron shirts with a crease and trousers without as its faster

Duck90 · 18/10/2015 22:52

I also read non-u as non unreasonable.

Salmotrutta · 18/10/2015 22:57

Tummyclutter - thank you for making my night.

Standards have slipped so much these days don't you think?

PinkSquash · 18/10/2015 23:02

Proper shirts must have creases, smart trousers should have creases and shoes must he bulled.

I am the only person in my workplace to iron creases into my uniform trousers, but they would look wrong if they didn't, it wouldn't be propa.

OhtoblazeswithElvira · 18/10/2015 23:11

Totally agree op. Dp does his own ironing and agrees with you, too. Overironing is a bit try-hard imo.

Clearly you have hit a nerve with many hereGrin

Racundra · 18/10/2015 23:16

Perhaps it's because it's the lower ranks of the forces that have creases? (NCOs etc)

helentheheron · 18/10/2015 23:35

The no crease thing is definitely "a thing" (which is not to say that it is reasonable). Dp used to work for a posh investment bank and would never iron creases in his shirt sleeves. I on the other hand worked in a uniformed public sector job where you'd get a bollocking for not having a crease. Weird.

Toadinthehole · 19/10/2015 06:41

Bloke here. I always iron creases into my shirt sleeves. sometimes two actually.

littledrummergirl · 19/10/2015 07:41

Forces background- must have creases, anything else is just not smart enough.

theycallmemellojello · 19/10/2015 07:45

Oh no creases are horrible! Looks dead tacky, equivalent of wearing a belt with a massive skullhead buckle with your suit imo. And 'formal shirts should have a crease' Shock. Just no. You get used to ironing without leaving a crease pretty quickly.

LarrytheCucumber · 19/10/2015 07:57

DS was a Cadet and combats had to have a crease.
Non-U. Are you serious? I didn't think anyone used that expression any more. Especially now all the Mitfords are dead.
