Stranger cleaning my DD

I was feeding my DD some puree fruit. She had only had 3/4 mouthfuls and had a slither of fruit around her mouth.

A woman whom I did not know and never met before but was part of the 'gathering' I was involved with (mums meeting up) took it upon herself to grab a napkin and wipe my daughter's face - several times.

I was 'WTF' whilst smiling nicely at her but AIBU for thinking it is odd to do this, as friendly as she was, I wouldn't dream of interfering with a parent feeding their child.

Or am I being a bit precious?

As a side note, I don't bother cleaning/wiping until feeding has finished or if she is blathered in it!

Agree with pps, it was autopilot. I've caught myself grabbing a child's hand at a street crossing, putting a skirt right that was stuffed into tights after the child went to the loo, sticking my hand out to collect sweet wrappers for the bin... haven't yet wiped a mouth I think, but wouldn't put it past myself.

It's a bit unusual/weird, but as everyone else said really not something to get upset or annoyed about.

Don't get drawn in to the 'boundary' paranoia. Teaching your child boundaries is important of course, it doesn't extend to taking offence when someone wipes a baby's mouth though. Teaching boundaries doesn't mean preventing all human contact.

How odd!. Must have been on autopilot. A few months ago was outside a friends house there was a woman there i was chatting to, she seemed to be in a rush getting her children in the car, and there were a few bits of fluff on he back of her jacket and i just picked them off and she I think she didn't even notice and its was only after she'd gone I realised what I did!.

I used to do that to my first wife on occasion. Don't some sot of apes do this preening each other lark;?.

Have you never done anything like this yourself OP ?
I have often, as people say, on autopilot, wiped noses, pulled up trousers, even comforted children who had fallen over.
Would never have done any of these before becoming a parent though.

Even at work I get the urge to 'feed' , tidy and mother one lovely young lad who looks like he needs looking after - even though he's 23 yrs old !

It is a bit strange but going for automatic too.

RollingRollingRolling · 18/10/2015 14:13

Once I would say is autopilot, several times is just weird.

Lovemytent only in the capacity of my job (teacher) or if I felt a child was in danger of being harmed or upset(running into a road for example).

RollingRollingRolling - several times!!! I must admit, the once i would shrug off but she did keep doing it. That bit, I did omit from my original post.
