to be petrified about taking the bowel prep for my colonoscopy tomorrow....

I have to go into hospital for a colonoscopy tomorrow. Need to be at the hospital at 11.30am. I am pretty sure the doctor said to take the first prep at 11am, but the leaflet in the box says 'for a morning appointment take at 7am and again at 7pm'.

Am so worried that have been in denial until now and have realised that if I take at 11am then I will need to take the second at 11pm and I want to be asleep by then and not on the loo.....

Think my whole not planning properly is that I am so worried about the whole thing and what they may find. Been having dodgy guts for months and most recently bright red blood and mucus passing without stools. I am 46.

Any experiences or hand holding?

My DH is supportive, but would rather boil his head in gravy than talk about poo...

I'm sorry to derail, I have blood and mucas as described in the op. I saw my GP last year (was also experiencing bloating) she diagnosed constipation and irritated piles.
The bloating has gone but the other hasn't changed, worth another visit to GP?

Sorry again op, best of luck for tomorrow Flowers

Oldwestaction · 19/10/2015 08:02

shameful I would defiantly go back to your gp! I too have a colonoscopy for rectal bleeding/mucous and was put as an urgent referral.
Good luck today op.

ThreeRuddyTubs · 19/10/2015 08:08

I had my colonoscopy for bleeding and mucous it just turned out to be piles. Better to try and get a referral if you're worried about it

Oldwestaction · 19/10/2015 08:38

Three can I ask how heavy or frequent your bleeding was and did you ever have it without bowel movements? Really hoping that they find something similar with me today and nothing serious!

swarskicat · 19/10/2015 19:47

Thanks for all the messages. Was all fine. The worst bit was the not eating for 36 hours, next worse was sitting on the loo for hours with what felt (and looked) like wee coming out my bum, next worse was having a male surgeon and two male nurses (one of whom looked like David Beckman) all perusing my bum.

Actual procedure was a breeze!!! Slightly uncomfortable but just vague stomach cramps.

I had mucus and fresh blood in stool and result was no problems in bowel- just a few minor 'sore spots', but nothing 'sinister'. Took a couple of biopsies to be safe. Back to see Dr in 2 weeks.

I am now enjoying a chicken and ham pie with a glass of white wine....

megletthesecond · 19/10/2015 20:34

Please to hear you're fine. Have a good sleep tonight.

TheTravellingLemon · 19/10/2015 20:41

She's had wine and sedatives today. She'll sleep WinkGrin.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 19/10/2015 20:41

Ahh relax now Smile

I had a couple of colonoscopies and an endoscapy.

I cannot look at pink Lucozade now Envy

ToadsforJustice · 19/10/2015 20:45

Glad it all went well swarskicat, although at my hospital (where I'm a nurse), you would have been offered an all female team. IMO, a patients comfort and dignity is very important.

cherrytree63 · 20/10/2015 07:22

I've been asked if I'd like a female team but it doesn't bother me. But they do give you dignity pants...big blue knickers with a flap!

PunkrockerGirl · 20/10/2015 07:30

Glad it all went well. Enjoy the rest of this week now. Flowers

ThreeRuddyTubs · 20/10/2015 08:15

I had a mixed male and female team...I just wanted the best people for the job! Glad it went well op

oldwestaction I had bleeding almost every day sometimes a couple of weeks without. Maybe a teaspoonful or 2 (hard to judge) of bright red blood and not always with a bowel movements. I left mine for a shamefully long time before I got it checked out so I'm very lucky that it was nothing serious.

swarskicat · 20/10/2015 09:05

Thanks. Slept well.

I sort of did not mind the all male team as agree that should not make a difference if they are the best people for the job. But would have liked to be prepared and at least offered an option of a female in the room.

No dignity knickers, all very matter of fact and swift.

Sorry op didn' Ltd read where you said you didn't have the option of a female...also no dignity pants make that more awkward! I'm sure I'd have felt the same in those circumstances
