AIBU to try and catch the pork pie thief?

OH left half a (quite large) pork pie on the floor in the living room overnight last night by accident. He had brought it home from work and, on unpacking his bag, put his coat on top of the parcel and forgot about the slice of pie.

This morning we came down and the sandwich bag it had been in had been pulled out, ripped open, and only the pastry of the pie was left.

Our first instinct was that it must have been a mouse, but we've never had food stolen before and there was no mouse poo... could a mouse even eat that much pork pie? I think I'd struggle to eat that much.

On closer inspection there was black and white fur stuck to the greasy bag, not the brown fur of a house mouse.

We live semi-rurally and have a cat flap (locking mechanism is broken) so some beastie might have well come in. Do badgers fit through cat flaps? I've never once seen a black and white cat locally. Hmm

AIBU to let my curiosity get the better of me and want to leave a pork pie out tonight and set up a camera to catch the pie thief? I want to know who ate all the pie!

Would a badger fit through the cat flap? It's far more likely to have been a cat!

I would think that a cat is the most likely offender.

Are you in West Sussex?

Not even vaguely possible for it to have been a badger. They just don't come into houses.

You will have a black and white cat somewhere. Or someone in your house has a pet rat that you are not aware of Smile

Any rodent would have dragged the food under/into something, so you may find it again...

Oooh! Zebra! I have never heard of that happening!!

Badgers only come into contact with us if we encourage them!! Wonder how much encouragement that badger was given?

You've got a dog haven't you ;)

Yeah I did love that juxtaposition of posts! Grin

We have a badger that comes in if the back door is left open slightly. (Let's hear out from cooking). Doesn't even need to be full dark.
